Recycling and Household
Hazardous VVaste
CURBSIDE PICK-UP of trash and recycling is so convenient, that sometimes it is
tempting to put items in the trash or recycling bin that do not belong there. Some
items, while recyclable, cannot be collected curbside. That does not mean that we
should just throw them in the trash. It might take some extra effort, but recycling scrap
metal, electronics, plastic bags, and numerous other recyclable items can make a huge
impact on the growth of our landfills. Hazardous waste items, such as paints, solvents,
oils, and others can actually harm the environment. In Hennepin County we are lucky
to have drop-off facilities which collect many recyclable and household hazardous
waste items for free, or for a small fee.
Hennepin County Drop-Off Facilities do not accept:
./ Ammunition
./ Explosives
./ Friable asbestos
./ Infectious waste (including needles/sharps)
./ Most pressurized cylinders
./ Radioactive waste
Contact point of purchase, manufacturer or Hennepin County office for disposal
options.
For a complete list ofrecyclables and household hazardous waste items that can be
dropped off at the Hennepin County sites, contact Hennepin County Environmental
Services, 612/348-3777, or online at www.hennepin.us; Key Word Search: A to Z or

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Help Keep Our VVater Clean
RESIDENTS CAN MAKE a big impact on the water system for the entire area. How
you dispose of household chemicals, what you put on your lawn, and how you
landscape are three major areas that individual households affect our water supply. A
few simple reminders to help you make a difference include:
· Keep storm drains clean and do not rake or blow lawn debris into the street.
. Sweep grass clippings off of paved surfaces.
. Sweep up and dispose of any lawn care products that get on streets or driveways.
. Follow label instructions on lawn care products and dispose of them properly.
· Direct water from downspouts onto your lawn and away from the house and paved
surfaces.
· Reseed bare spots on your lawn and mow high and often. Grass height should be
between 2-1/2 and 3-1/2 inches.
. Collect oil and other automotive products for recycling or hazardous waste
disposal.
. Wash cars on the lawn, where soapy water can't quickly run toward the nearest
storm sewer.
. Clean up pet wastes and dispose of in your trash.

Map Descriptions
The following items are on the July 1 8, 2006 Planning Commission Agenda:
1. St. John the Baptist Church is requesting an amendment to its Conditional Use Permit to change the location and size of a
proposed storage building previously approved for the Cemetery of the Resurrection property located at 5555 Covington Road.
A public hearing is scheduled for 7 PM.
Automatic Bill Payment Plan is Coming!
THE CITY OF SHOREWOOD staff is studying implementation of an Automatic Utility Bill Payment Plan for residents to pay their
quarterly City utility bills. An Auto-Pay Plan would offer a free and easy way to pay your utility bill. Forget about checks,
stamps, or late charges--just have your bill automatically deducted from your checking or savings account!
To get started on the Auto- Pay Plan, residents will complete an authorization form and submit it to the City with a voided check
(for checking accounts) or deposit slip (for savings accounts). After verification, the first automatic payment begins with the next
quarterly billing. Your monthly bank statement will reflect the automatic payment. The City hopes to have the Automatic Utility
Bill Payment Plan program implemented by this fall. More information and authorization forms will be available soon in a future
Shore Report and online at www.ci.shorewoodmn.us.
