Participating in the Twin Cities Free

trash, and helps people avoid buying new,
which is great for the environment and
saves people money. In Hennepin County
alone, it's estimated that 32 million
pounds of usable clothing and household
goods are thrown away each year — that's
enough to fill shopping carts lined up from
Minneapolis to Milwaukee.
In 2003, The Free Market had more
than 8,000 listings and facilitated more
than 4,000 exchanges, amounting to more
than 500 tons of materials. The Twin

Residential Burglaries On the Rise

neighboring communities, and would
like to offer some crime prevention tips
to Shorewood residents.
• Simply lock your doors and

residential burglaries in Minnesota
in 2003 required no forced entry.

• Keep your overhead garage door
closed, whether or not you are
home.
• Call police immediately, by dialing
911, when you see a crime in
progress or anything that you feel is
suspicious. Do not call the SLMPD
administrative office as they will
need to transfer you to the dispatch
center, and valuable time will be
lost. Above all, do not hesitate to
call. SLMPD officers will be happy
to check it out; it is NOT a burden.
• Corlsiddr starting a neighborhood
watch group. One of the best crime
deterrents is neighbors who know
each other well and know what does
and does not "look right" in their
neighborhood. Community Service/
Crime Prevention Officer David
Hohertz can help you get started. He
