Here are highlights of actions it has taken: => Shorewood Mayor Woody Love was selected as Chair (through 2001) with Teri Haugland from Excelsior as Vice - Chair. => The Board has discussed temporary solutions to the fire station's space shortage, until a decision is made on a new or expanded facility. More room is needed for offices, storage, training and meeting areas, in addition to the equipment bay area. => An extensive search process has begun for the hiring of the first full-time fire chief. The process should be completed it December, with the new chief beginning duties in January, 2001. = The Board received the initial drafr of a fire service needs analysis conducted b3 Robert Aldrich, a well- respected consultant: and retired Fridley Fire Chief. The stud; identifies a need to replace the present station in downtown Excelsior with a new station tc the west, and perhaps a satellite station to the east. The Board intends to absorb the needs analysis document and act as quickly as possible on its recommendations. "One of our earliest and highest prioritieF will be recruiting new volunteer firefighters," says Woody Love. Over the next months, watch for a summary of the needs analysis and an action plan, as the Board and the Department continue on their drive to cost - effective excellence in service.
