Yard waste can be brought to the Public Works parking area at 24200 Smithtown Road between 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. Grass, leaves and mixed brush will be accepted. All yard waste must be emptied from bags and the bags taken home. Brush and sticks must be bundled with branches smaller than 1 1/2" in diameter and less than 4' in length. For the residents on Shady and Enchanted Islands, a container will be provided at the cul -de -sac of Dellwood Lane for drop -off. Tonka Rake-, -Thon T HE 14TH ANNUAL Tonka Rake - A-Thon is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2000. Teams of volunteers provide raking services to senior residents of the Minnetonka School District. Shorewood Re members orr r Mayor Rascop ORMER horewood Mayor Robert (Bob) Rascop died September 12, days after an accidental fall. Rascop, 58, a long -time resident of Shorewood, served as mayor from 1981 to 1988. He also served as a member on the City Council, the Planning Commission, and for 19 years on the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District. Bob's service to the community will be greatly missed. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Rascop family. Memorials can be sent to the Robert Rascop Memorial Fund, 17800 Highway 7, Minnetonka, MN 55345. "Why Not Girls Football ?" T HE CITY RECENTLY RECEIVED A LETTER from a local middle school girl wondering why there isn't a girls football team in Shorewood. Since our city does not sponsor or organize specific sports teams, we referred her to the Minnetonka Community Education Services (MCES), and also to the Student Athletic Director for the School District. If other young girls in our area would be interested in playing organized football, please contact MCES or the School District (401 - 5027). Maybe before long we'll see that girls team! Wine Tasting, October 26th There will be a wine- tasting at the Southshore Senior Center on Thursday, October 26th, from 6 P.M. to 9 P.M. put on by the Shorewood and Tonka Bay Liquor Stores. Holiday Plans Underway T HE EXCELSIOR AREA CHAMBER of Commerce invites you to mark Friday, November 17, 6 P.m. on your calendar. At that moment a flip of the switch will transform downtown Excelsior into an exquisite winter wonderland of holiday lights, all the way from the Post Office to the length of Water Street. Voters Forum Cancelled Due to no opposition in the Shorewood Mayor and City Council elections, the League of Women Voters Candidate Forum originally scheduled for October 5th has been cancelled. Excelsior Fire Department Fire Prevention Open House Thursday, October 12th 6:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. Interactive learning centers and displays will be of interest to your entire family, including the Fire Safety Escape House, air bag demonstrations, the Jacob Wetterling Foundation, firefighters who fought western fires this past summer, truck rides, Sparkey the Fire Dog, and more! Saturday, December 2nd will offer "An Old- Fashioned Country Christmas" with horse -drawn hayrides, ice carvers, and carolers creating a holiday atmosphere. There will be hot cider and cookies, a Christmas pageant, the Masonic Hall's annual Chili supper, and more. The meeting is at 7 P.M at City Hall. Please call City Hall for more details. Trail . A RIBBON - CUTTING CEREMONY was held on September 5 to officially open the Vine Hill- Covington Trail. The laying of additional sod and the removal of fencing will complete the project. The Park Commission reviewed and discussed the final results of feedback received concerning the Smithtown Road (west of the LRT) at their September 5th meeting. A group of citizens has volunteered to start a grassroots movement to involve more people in the trail - planning process.
