Fi uS THE SHORE REPORT/MARCH 2009 FOILICIE WOWIES Animal Bites The SLMPD would like to remind residents that when a dog, cat, or a wild animal bites a person, a police report MUST be made. The animal will then be quarantined for 10 days to determine if there is a rabies risk. An animal bite report can be made by calling 911 or the Hennepin County Dispatch Center at 763.525.6210. Be cautious around strange dogs. Always assume that a dog who doesn't knowyou may see you as an intruder or a threat. Dog Licensing Every dog over the age of six months in the city must be licensed and have current rabies vaccination. Licenses may be purchased at city hall during normal business hours. Kennel Licensing No more than two dogs over the age of six months are allowed in any household in Shorewood unless the owners first obtain a kennel license. This license shall allow an owner to keep up to four dogs over the age of six months. A fee for the kennel license is required and application may be made at city hall during normal business hours. For additional information regarding animal regulations, refer to Shorewood city ordinance chapter 700 via the city's website, or contact SLMPD Animal Control at 952.9601676 or animalcon&ol@,southlakepd.com. Slow Down! Pedestrians on the Road! Warmer temperatures bring out more pedestrians and dog walkers. Keep in mind that sloppy road shoulders mean many of the pedestrians are on the roadway. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, obey traffic laws, and be considerate of pedestrians on the road. Mortgage Foreclosure Workshop Now Available Online Hennepin County Taxpayer Services, in conjunction with the Minnesota Home Ownership Center, has been conducting free public foreclosure information workshops at county libraries for several months. For those who haven't been able to attend, a video of the workshop is now available. The workshops help residents - including homeowners facing or worried about foreclosure, and renters affected by landlords' foreclosures - to understand the foreclosure process, their rights, and how they can find assistance. The workshop includes information about the foreclosure process, homeowners' and tenants' rights, foreclosure counseling, working withyour lender, assistance and other related topics. Taxpayer Services partnered with the Hennepin County Library and the Minnesota Home Ownership Center - a counseling agency that provides foreclosure prevention education and outreach and pre-purchase information for homeowners - to provide the informational sessions. The Excelsior Firefighters want to remind everyone it is time to change the batteries in their Smoke Detectors and Carbon Monoxide Detectors when you change your clocks on Sunday, March 8, for Daylight Saving Time. A working smoke detector can more than double a person's chances of surviving a home fire. More than 90 percent of homes in the United States have smoke detectors, but one-third are estimated to have dead or missing batteries. Take this time to replace your smoke detectors if they are more than 8 years old. Write the date you installed your new batteries on the inside of the cover or somewhere the date can be easily seen. Additional Detectors It may also be time to add smoke detectors to your home. There should be a smoke detector on every level of your home outside every sleeping area, in every bedroom, in hallways, in the laundry room, and any room with a door that can be closed. The more working smoke detectors you have in your home the more time your family will have to escape.
