There will be many changes associated with the new recycling contract, including a new 68-gallon wheeled cart for the collection of your plastic bottles, cans and glass, mixed paper, boxboard and corrugated cardboard. No additional items will be picked up curbside, but the new program will eliminate the need to separate paper and cardboard from your other items. Recycling service will be every-other-week beginning with the January 6, 2010 collection. Allied Waste has found that with the larger bin, there is no need for weekly pick-up service, which saves O fuel and wear and tear on Shorewood roads. Recycling day and garbage day will remain the same. Q The council also decided to join many other cities in offering RecycleBank. This rewards program allows recyclers to earn points based on their recycling participation. The points can then be converted into gift cards, tickets and discounts at local businesses and national retailers in the area. Complete information on the recycling program and RecycleBank will be delivered to each home. Carts will be delivered in December. Residents who wish to keep their green recycling bin for storage or personal use may do so. Others will have the opportunity to drop their bin off at a designated location for recycling or reuse. To have your name added to our recycling email list and receive recycling updates and reminders, please emailjmoore@ci.shorewood.mn.us. Emails include reminders of holiday collection delays, area drop-off opportunities, household hazardous waste events, and other similar recycling information. If you have questions regarding Shorewood recycling contact Julie Moore, 952.960.7906. Rental Housing License Due THE CITY OF SHOREWOOD ADOPTED a rental housing code in 1993 that requires owners of all rental housing within city limits to be licensed by the city. The licensing procedure includes an application and inspection and was developed to correct and prevent housing conditions that may adversely affect the health, safety and general welfare of Shorewood's rental population. The rental housing license pertains to all rental dwelling units, including apartments, duplexes, double bungalows, single family homes and accessory apartments within homes. Licenses must be renewed every three years or upon change of ownership, whichever occurs first. Property owners may obtain a Rental Housing Application on the city's web site, www. ci.shorewood.mn.us under Online Forms or at city hall. Return completed forms to city hall with the appropriate fee(s). If you are a renter in the City of Shorewood, please make sure that your property has been properly licensed. The license inspection protects renters and makes sure that properties meet code requirements. If you are unsure about whether or not your property Meetings and has been licensed, please call the Planning Department O w w at 952.960.7909.
