ADJOURN Shorewood Park Commission Meeting Activity & Minute Notes Summary January 07 -May 08 1/9/07 g iscussed the Woodhaven well site as a possible park site. - iscussed the delay in bids for the Badger football lights in 2006. - Approved the year end report from CRR, but Hensley questioning acceptance vs. approval. 2/13/07 - Lacrosse made a $750 donation. 3/6/07 Work Session - Discussed Badger lighting. -Brown thought the Badger hockey was not in as poor condition as the football lighting. - Talked about getting a consultant on board to look at Badger in relation to City Hall redevelop. Brown was to get a planner on board. - Discussion of talking to Chanhassen about Cathcart begins. -Brown noted the reshingling of Manor Park building -Brown suggested for Manor: • Keeping $5K in budget for pond treatment. • Put off tennis court fix until 2008. - Commission discussed big spending in improvements for parks and looking at new funding sources. 3/13/07 - Presentation from T Lair. 10/07 - Discussion about girl's softball and diamond club request. Request for funds was denied 5/1. -6/0 deny a request for video taping a tree removal in Freeman Park. - Hensley appointed to Historical Commission 6/0. - Approval of MCE program at Freeman Park Subject To completed paperwork 6/0. - Approved 3 rd Lair skate park program for 7/23 -7/27 6/0. 5/8/07 Park Tours - Badger • Tennis courts have been repaired for last time. • Light replacement bids coming in around $70K. - Freeman • Brown noted the roof for the picnic structure at field 2 needs to be replaced. - Discussion • Commission agreed the lights and drain tile at Badger are a priority. 6/12/07 Park Tour -Manor • Tennis court repaired for the last time. • Question about bathrooms for building brought up. Brown thought it would cost $30K. .Silverwood • No mention of a planner being brought in in minutes, but it was discussed. - Woodhaven Well • Staff was to survey the neighborhood about their thoughts on the parcel. - Discussion • Brown noted that the commission had requested that the entire city hall campus be reviewed in conjunction with the remodel of city hall. • Staff was directed to get tennis court replacement cost bids to help us build rationale for • which direction to go 6/0 • Brown noted the city would be updating the rules and regulation signs in the parks. • Motions 6/0 to get bids for shelter, tables and /or sport court surface for Silverwood, and motion for collecting proposals from upstart companies for a fresh park design. NOT DONEHM 7/10/07 -Staff installing drain the at Badger Park after lights go up. - Irrigation system at Freeman Park adjusted to hit the plaza. - Request from Norman for a quarterly financial report on where our budget is at. I believe it happened once. 8/14/07 - Badger drain the install held off until 2008 - Motion to approve a skate camp over MEA 4/0 -Brown stated they plan to collect bids for park improvements at Silverwood, but that it should be done in conjunction with the vendors working on Badger Park. - Motion to approve funds for a backboard at Manor park $400 4/0. - Discussion of revising park dedication fees happens. Brown to speak to Brad Nielsen. - Reviewed 2007 work program. No items really called out, but looking back at the sheet the trail at Cathcart and the roof at Manor were on it. -Brown suggested the commission make a motion to council on what to do with the Woodhaven lot — turn in to a park or sell to benefit the parks. • 9/5/07 -No real activity. Just discussion. 10/9/07 - Reports from MCE and CRR. - Review Cathcart survey • Discussion of tennis courts. • discussed meeting with Chanhassen again. Dog Park event this month. Brown noted Chair Davis would see them at the 11/13/07 -Big Walter booked for 7/11/08. -Park dedication fee discussion. Final motion was to increase the fee from $2K to $5K. 5/0. -Noted that no meeting with Chanhassen happened at the Dog Park meeting. -Drain the install happening at Badger this month. 12/11/07 - Approved dates for 2008 3 rd Lair program. 4/0. - Reviewed 2007 work program progress. Some items completed. Brown acknowledged that some of the maintenance items at Freeman and Manor shingling fell under routine maintenance instead of CIP. • January — No Meeting 2/12/08 Fo st ssion of summer programs. n to move forward with MCE partnership. 5/0. - Motion to seek bids for sealing Skate Park well. -Davis elected as chair, Norman as vice - chair. 2/12/08 Work Session - Discussion of 2008 park priorities. Big discussion about the bike train on Smithtown AGAIN! - Discussed lighting and restrooms and going to the council with requests. - Discussed the City survey and that it would be helpful for us to ask questions that will help us address questions about the tennis courts, etc. - Wellens said the council should see our list of proposed improvements sooner than later. 3/11/08 - Discussion of questions for survey, commission attendance policy 4/2/08 Work Session - Determined questions for city survey. - Review engineer's estimates for park improvements. -Staff to look at other signage pricing. Which they did. - Discussed talking with the city of Chanhassen again. 4/8/08 iscussion & more discussion of prairie plantings. Motion to approve planting at specific areas -Mayor Lizee spoke from the floor regarding what she felt the commission should be ding with extra funds from liquor store sale. Create grants to neighborhoods. - Approved CRR agreement for 2008 4/0. 5/13/08 Park Tours - Cathcart • Landini to set up a meeting with Chanhassen to discuss park. • Tennis courts are second in use behind Badger according to him. - Freeman • Staff to look at options for trail surface from Shorewood Oaks Dr. • Staff was directed to contact the baseball association about picking up some of their equipment and putting it in the shed. • Brown commented on the maintenance needed on the picnic shelter. - Discussion • Brown brought up referring to the master plan regarding use of the parks. • City survey will not happen for several months. • Brown brought up the challenge Wellens and Lizee brought up regarding the commission approaching council for funds. • Brown stated that staff would come back with a plan for highest and best use for Badger and Cathcart as soon as possible. • • Discussed signage again. • BADGER 0 • I I u r • 0 0 • • • t • • • • • • • • ♦IfViVVlll60 1 V.
