The maps • produced document what activities and features are in place at this time. This discussion focused on setting in place means and methods to objectively evaluate requests that are submitted for increased park use. Currently, the tools available to evaluate such requests are the City's Comprehensive Plan, the Master Plan for the Shorewood Park System, and the zoning ordinances. Staff will present the maps during the work session for the Park Commission, on Tuesday night. It is suggested that Commissioners give thought to what rules, guidelines or'polices should be in place to evaluate requests that come forward. One example may be that "30 percent of a neighborhood park" is to remain passive space. This would provide the tools for the Commission and City Council to evaluate if there is adequate room for an additional activity to be added to a certain park. Commissioners may recall per the Master Plan that the City's park system is divided into separate classifications. They are: ♦ Neighborhood Parks ♦ Community Playfields ♦ Community Parks • ♦ Conservancy Lands ♦ Special Uses PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER w 1 I r Park Commission . Park Activity Maps March 8, 2004 Page 2 of 2 In consideration of the above categories, it is possible, and very likely that the policies adopted may be unique to each classification. This follows the logic of how the Planning Commission and City Council regulate development requests that are considered. While this can be al daunting task, it may help to have Commissioners arrive at some general statements as to what is to be preserved or changed in our parks. These should coincide with the Parks Master Plan that has already been developed. Staff will be prepared on Tuesday night to document and assist in deriving any guidelines Commissioners may recommend to the City Council. • Badger Park / Existing Park Usage • Badger Park Current Use Breakdown 5% 2% ❑ Open Area 5% ■ Play Area 11% ■Multi -Use Bldg. ■ Tennis 4% ■ Football 0 % ■ Hockey 1 % 72% ■ Ice Skating ® Parking Drinking Fountain Baseball Field Babe Ruth Field Softball Field Football Field Warming House Hockey Rink Badger Park Current Use Breakdown 5% 2% ❑ Open Area 5% ■ Play Area 11% ■Multi -Use Bldg. ■ Tennis 4% ■ Football 0 % ■ Hockey 1 % 72% ■ Ice Skating ® Parking SENIOR i CENTER ` z Cl a u W Lj W A W W W S to z a MMgX aD. atatMl m - - [Wt • .. _ ._. _ WAG xxx xxx a amto xxx xxx BADGER PARK PARK SYSTEM GENERAL IBADGER PARK SHREWD, MINNESOTA EXISTING PARK USAGE xx xxx to- x xx xx xooxo tw an WELL HOUSE ' QAKING i ROAD '. a:° x x PARKING asx.. x 41 td HICKEY w - = MULTI w :F ENTBALL N PARKING BLDG POND TENNIS PLAY AREA f CITY HALL i SKATING AREA / -- NIGH USE L— _ - — _— - —_- - - - -- - - - - -- -- MEDIUM USE — — LOW USE PARKING AREA z Cl a u W Lj W A W W W S to z a MMgX aD. atatMl m - - [Wt • .. _ ._. _ WAG xxx xxx a amto xxx xxx t plt O — _ Mi itiuwco r m ircmt a iiz nnnimi o ao>KCZ [ , K LK Q TK S M MIWx:tYl xzxzxxxxxuzxxzxxux CITY OF zx SHOREWOOD arcs xx/xz/xx Maw xxxx PARK SYSTEM GENERAL IBADGER PARK SHREWD, MINNESOTA EXISTING PARK USAGE xx xxx to- x xx xx xooxo tw an arc xx X • • Cathcart Park / Existing Park Usage Cathcart Park Current Use Breakdown % 12 °n L'7b ❑ Open Space ■ Play Area ❑ Multi Use Bldg ■ Tennis ■ Basketball ■ Baseball ■ Hockey ❑ Ice Skating ® Parking • Picnic Shelter Practice Tennis Court Basketball Court = = =_ == . - .. - -- = = =_ == : _ -.- Field - -- r " " F.111 - . - -- warming House Cathcart Park Current Use Breakdown % 12 °n L'7b ❑ Open Space ■ Play Area ❑ Multi Use Bldg ■ Tennis ■ Basketball ■ Baseball ■ Hockey ❑ Ice Skating ® Parking • HOCKEY PLAY AREA 0 z 0 r a N W ppwux xa k AS II/'IN k%k 1 Mpsly fLI11pY tWt pFis FlN4 IPSCIlIGIIpN p1 iFFM YIS RKFM[p IY d Utl[I NY IIRCI 61llsp%IS![N IFp A FUN m HfpIN m h1S1 1 Ax p IULV MtlF11Kp IIOG110ML t101N.sp uiltp X%7t kxx Ni Lpla O 1NL s1pR M MINYSi011 W pkMp m PpptlR Xp Tt1 1=A 11 , 77, p CIT C x%% ym xkx% I xxx - .• / %• / %x SHOREWO O OD Gnu xx/kk /kx RM m xxxx DARK INC MULTI USE CKATING BLDG.
