032107 PK MINu, PART{ COMMISSION MINUTES CITY OF SHOREWOOD March 21, 1977 Minnewashta School 7:30 p.m. The meeting Was called to order by Chairman John Breckheimer. Other members present: Roger Stein, Win Drews, Bill Wyatt, Jim Heiland, Tom Schmid. Also present: Council { man Bill Keeler. James Robin and Conrad Schmid were present at the request of ;the Park Commission as potential replacements - for the vacancy created by the decision of Don Paulson to resign. Chairman Breckheimer reported on the progress of the Cathcart building. Wyatt and Breckheimer agreed to meet with Vern Watten to check progress, blueprints, costs' and job specs. MOTION: Heiland moved, Drews seconded, that all preparations for the Cathcart Build- ing be completed so that construction may begin May 1.-Carried. Heiland agreed to develop a list of volunteer workers willing to contribute time and labor to the Cathcart building construction. Much discussion followed regarding the actual location of the building at Cathcart. Breckheimer agreed to contact Vern Watten: and Mayor Frazier and;..then` the Park Commission members to set upan on site meeting to review the Cathcart building', site, said meeting to take place within the next two weeks. At the urging of several members, Breckheimer will call Mike Naylon of the Minne -' sota Environmental Science Foundation and request that he attend a future meeting of the Commission to review the long -range park plan. Drews agreed to'contact City Attorney Frank Kelly regarding the purchase of the' two acres adjoining Manor Park. Reiland raised the question of the use of ;mini -bikes and trail bikes: in the city. He expressed'a concern for damage to trails now established for horses and snow- mobiles. Councilman Keeler agreed to bring this matter to the attention of the4 City Council indicating Park Commission concern about such questions''as the possible banning of all off - the --road mini bikes in 'Shorewood. The Commission agreed to work on the development of signs for the parks at its $: April 4th meeting now that the Council has passed the Park Ordinance. The Commission chatted informally during the meeting with prospective Commission members Jim Robin and Connie Schmid. Both persons expressed continued strong interest in Shorewood parks. It was suggested that one might,be appointed and the other serve as an alternate until there is another vacancy. The Commission decided to make a final decision on this matter at its April 4th meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 10 :08 p.m. TOM SCHMID, Secretary
