PARK COMMISSION
September 7, 1976
Minutes
The September 7th meeting of the Park Commission was called to
order by Chairman Bill Wyatt with Neiland, Gray, McCuskey, Drews,'
Raby and Paulsen in attendance. Planner Mike Naylon was ` present
and spoke to us of plans for our park development. He suggested
that we do a site survey of our parks from which drawings delineat-
ing the nature of each park and its uses would be made. Knowledge
of adjoining community park areas and usage is important`so that
we do not duplicate use. Bike trail plans of other cities is
also necessary knowledge so that ours may be a proper continuation.'
Mike suggested that we prepare a slide presentation featuring our
existing parks to be shown at a series of neighborhood meetings
we plan late this fall to inform residents of Shorewood. At these
meetings we hope to offer the Commission's plans for our parks'
future and invite citizen participation at all levels of planning.
By mid - October Mike hopes to have the plans drawn and ready for
our community meetings. Our first meeting, however, will be with
the Council and Planning Commission.
We hope to communicate with citizens by the Sun and Maverick News-
papers and via Shorewood's fall newsletter. With neighborhood
meetings over by the end of December, the commission would then be
charged with the task of completing the plan.
Several members expressed concern about the watering -of new
trees at Badger.
• Our next meeting will be September 20th and each member is asked
to list five ideas for park development.
Bill Wyatt will attend the Chanhassen Park Commission meeting;
September 21st to acquaint them with plans for our building at
Cathcart.
Win moved that we select a new member in Gloria Congdon's place on the
Commission and that we select a second person who will be asked to
attend meetings and become a member when Allen Gray resigns. It
was seconded by Don Paulsen and passed'. Tom Schmid and Roger Stein
were chosen from a list of outstanding:'applicants.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:40 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
JUDY MCCUSKEY, Secretary
