March 15, 1975 Rinutes
The Varch 15th meeting was called to order by Chairman. Bill Wyatt with Heiland,
Breckheimer, Gray, M'IcCuskey, Congdon and Planning Commission Representative
Jerry Brecke in attendance. The minutes from the last meeting were approved.
OLD. BUSINESS
Bill Keeler told us he had received some complaints about the hockey lights at
Cathcart and Badger. It was decided that we should experiment with frosted light
bulbs to see if they give a better spread of light.
Gloria Congdon wrote a;letter to the C. D. C. (Community Design Center) addressed
to Clark Ryan, project reviewer. In it she explained the progress of our commis-
sion, our past funding and our hopes for the future.
John Breckheimer, our representative to the area Joint Trails Commission, has been
recommended for a position on the Metro Council. Task Force on Trails.
Bill Wyatt has been investigating the possibility of using part of the Chicago &
Northwestern railroad easement for Shorewood Tra Allen Gray will pursue this
further.
NEW BUSINESS
Bill Keeler told us that the Greater Excelsior J. C.'s -may be interested in assist -
ing us on a „ Challenge Trail" built in Badger Parr. Such a: trail consists of.
various activities (obstacle course, jogging, pull.up apparatus) for adults and
children.
The den's Softball League has approached us looking for a diamond for their games.
We have no area that would be appropriate.
Shirley Rice will present a slide show, f'The Cost of Sprawl ", put together by the
League of Women Voters, and conduct a discussion an land use at our April 5th
meeting. It was suggested that we invite the Planning Commission to view the show
with us,
Gloria Congdon brought us an aerial map which she had made in 1967 including all of
Shorewood. We hope to use it in our continuing effort to discover the residential
clusters of our city. By the next meeting our plat maps showing houses and empty
lots should be complete.
