IL I I, September 29, 1975 • The fifth meeting of the Shorewood Park Commission was called to order by Jim Heiland, Chairperson, at 7s45 pm. at Minnewashta School. Members present weret Heiland, Paulsen, Drews, Breck- heimer, Wyatt, McCuskey, Keeler and Congdon. The minutes of September 15 were accepted as corrected. (include Carol Newbold in those present). Old Business Hockey Rinks at Cathcart and Badgers Discussion was held on necessar lighting for rinks. At Cathcart, 4 metal halide (mh� fixtures will be used on blue lines of the rink. Florescent lights will be stacked in the center. Volunteer labor will be employed Oct. 11 at 900 am at Cathcart to put up boards. The council has volunteered to help. All Park Commission members should attempt to be there. Bill Keeler will contact MYNA to get volunteer troops organized. Don Paulsen will handle ordering the lamps for fixtures at $26/ea. Jim Heiland will handle ordering fixtures from Handy Sales at $200 or less for each fixture. Elsa will send out purchase order. Badger will be assemble on Oct. 25th. Wally will drill boards with Bill Wyatt. Manor Park: Three inch pipe will be used for Basketball and volley ball court standards. Wally Salt will pick up pipes. The possibility of using property adjacent to Amesbury for the Manor skating rink was discussed. The property is more level and is close to a hydrant for ease of maintaning. There is pre- sently no warming house. Bill Keeler will investigate alterna- tives for that facility. Badger: HUD funds may be used for purposes other than stated in the ori- ginal proposal. If they are entirely redirected, a petition must be filed. The plan for the park was discussed. The play area will be put next to Tennis Court and at the end of the hockey rink. The size of the parking lot was discussed. It was decided that space for approximately 40 cars should be provided. To prepare the warming house the windows will be boarded with III 2 plywood. Motion: that we board the windows with ill plywood and replace the paneling in the kitchen. Passed unanimously. Bids are going out on landscaping. Soccer field will be sodded to assure sooner use. Bid will include; s dd . 10,000 yards with and without volunteer help, approximately 6,000 for black • dirt and $2,000 for tree transplanting. Trees will run from 3" to 61 along with assorted shrubs. It is yet undetermined how to assess bids. The commission would like to see them before the Council so that we might give a recommendation to the council. ti -2- Signs: The sign designed by Naegele, Inc. was submitted by Bill Keeler. The design was accepted enthusiastically. It was suggested that more rustic materials be used and the addition of an announcement center on the back side be considered. Approximately $60 /sign for materials, $100/ sign if announcement board is tLsed.
