T he city's Boards and Commissions provide
an opportunity for resident participation in
issues concerning the well -being of the city and its
residents. The Shorewood City Council places a
high value on the comments and recommendations
received from city boards and commissions.
Currently the city is seeking a resident to fill an
/Q sentee Voting
P rimary Election Day was moved up
approximately one month to allow more time
to process absentee ballots, especially those of
military and overseas citizens.
• Primary Election Day is August 10
• Absentee Voting for Primary begins June 25
• General Election Day is November 2
• Absentee Voting for General Election begins
September 17
Eligible Shorewood voters may vote by absentee
ballot if they are unable to vote in person on
Election Day for any of the following reasons:
• Absence from the precinct
• Illness or disability
• Religious discipline or observance of
religious holiday
• Service as election judge in another precinct
• Eligible emergency declared by the governor
or quarantine declared by federal or state
government
You may complete an application for an absentee
ballot now. Ballots will be mailed after they are
available on the dates noted above.
Absentee Vote by Mail
You may request an absentee ballot by submitting
an Absentee Ballot application, available at City
Hall or on the City's website in Elections. The
Absentee Ballot Application may be mailed or
opening on the Park Commission. The Park
Commission meets on the second Tuesday of
each month.

Military Personnel and Civilians who are
Overseas
Military personnel and civilians who are temporarily
or permanently overseas, military personnel who
are stationed in the U.S. but away from their
hometown, and their spouses and dependents,
are eligible to vote in Minnesota by absentee
ballot under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens
Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) and Minnesota
state law.
• Temporarily Overseas: A voter who is
temporarily overseas is a citizen who would
be qualified as an eligible voter to vote at their
polling location in Minnesota if they were not
overseas.
• Permanently Overseas: A voter permanently
overseas is a citizen who currently has no
plans to return to Minnesota but is authorized
by federal law to vote in Minnesota because
they maintained residence in Minnesota for
at least 20 days immediately prior to their
departure from the United States. Voters who
are permanently overseas are permitted to vote
only for the offices of president, vice president,
senator in Congress, and representative in
Congress.

to use points earned from their
recycling efforts to "purchase"
coupons and certificates with
their banked points. Watching

by giving you special extra point
options.

with the City of Shorewood and
the Minnehaha Creek Watershed
District, is holding a Raingarden
Education Workshop for residents
on Tuesday, May 11, from 6 — 9
p.m. at the Southshore Community
Center (5735 Country Club Road).
The workshop will be taught and
facilitated by local landscape
ecologist Rusty Schmidt. This
fast -paced and focused three -
hour workshop is designed to
move participants quickly from an
overview of raingardens and their
benefits to a completed raingarden
design for their property.

for a special event and you would
like a temporary container. Call

continue to improve park recycling
efforts throughout the summer

Learn To Sail
June 8, 10, 15, 17; 1 -4 pm, or
August 9, 11, 16, 18; 1-4 pm
ASA- certified instructors teach
you on dry, stable sailboats from
Enchanted Island. A maximum
of 3 students per boat. For
ages 55 +.
This 12 -hour course gives
you the skills and confidence
to get underway, tack, jibe,
and perform a crew overboard
recovery. In four, three -hour,
on- the -water sessions you
will learn points of sail, six
basic sailing knots, how to reef,
heave -to, operate an outboard
motor and return safely to the
dock.
Cost: $395, includes text, Sailing
Fundamentals and American
Sailing Association logbook.
