Mainland residents recycle July 7 and 21; Island residents recycle July 8 and 22. Keep it Out of Your Curbside Cart The single sort recycling has been very successful since it's inception in the city in January. Over 80% of properties recycle curbside on a regular bases, up from 60 -65% with the dual -sort system. There continues to be confusion about the curbside recyclability of some products. Although there are resources for recycling other plastics, only plastic bottles with a neck (such as ketchup, shampoo, liquid laundry, etc.) are recyclable in the curbside container. If possible, make sure all lids are removed and bottles are empty. Cardboard egg cartons and other "spongy" cardboards have been made from recycled product that have such short fibers it cannot be recycled again. If you have access to a commercial organics recycling program, or want to take the material to Carver County Environmental Services drop -off, they can be processed in those programs. (www.co.carver mn. us). Finally, no plastic bags should be used for curbside recycling, nor should they be placed in the curbside cart. Clean, dry plastic bags may be taken to the drop -off at Lunds /Byerlys, Lakewinds, and Cub Foods. If you have any questions regarding recycling, or would like drop -off locations for recyclable items that you cannot include in your recycling container, please call the city, 952.960.7906, or email jmoore @ci.shorewood.
