Originating from Grand Rapids, MN and residing on Lake Pokegama for 15+ years, I became very familiar with issues such as Aquatic Invasive Species, dock size restrictions and recreational restrictions, to name a few. I am very passionate about lake life and the freedom it offers, however, proper oversight is necessary to combat the spread of AIS and also maintain an enjoyment level for all users. My family and I moved to Shorewood in March of 2011, and we were fortunate enough to have the entire summer to enjoy life around the lake. We were very familiar to the lake prior to re- locating due to family members living in and around the city of Minnetonka. The move just shortened the trip to the lake — driving distance to walking distance. No person enjoys this more than my 2.5 year old daughter who adores all aspects of the lake and loves nothing more than quiet drives on and around the lake. Lake Minnetonka is currently facing the incredible task of fighting the spread of Zebra Mussels and the containment of Eurasian Watermilfoil. Both of which require extensive coordination with other agencies, public education and treatment. Not only this, but the LMCD must continue to monitor the spread of other invasive species from other lakes and also monitor the recreational restrictions year round. The task given to the Conservation District is truly large, but when individuals treasure the lake life, and look forward to the next generation enjoying the same, the issues simply must be confronted with a passion and commitment. I hope this letter finds all parties well, and I do look forward to offering my time and commitment to the benefit of Lake Minnetonka. Thank You, Mark E. Sylvester PHONE: 612.597.2390 MARK E.
