12-062CITY OF SHOREWOOD RESOLUTION NO. 12 -062 and A RESOLUTION ADOPTING AN AMENDMENT TO THE SHOREWOOD COMPREHENSIVE PLAN 2009 PERTAINING TO GIDEON GLEN WHEREAS, the City of Shorewood adopted its current Comprehensive Plan in June of 2010; WHEREAS, the Community Facilities Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan addresses Parks Open Space in Shorewood; and WHEREAS, the Park Commission has recommended that the Gideon Glen Conservation Open Space property should be subject to oversight by the Park Commission; and WHEREAS, after legal notice was published in the official City newspaper, the Planning Commission conducted a public hearing on 18 September 2012, to formally present an amendment to Page CF -26 of the Comprehensive Plan to the public; and WHEREAS, after holding the public hearing the Planning Commission voted to recommend to the City Council that the following language be added to Paragraph 5 on Page CF -26: "While most of the conservation open space lands are undeveloped, at least one — Gideon Glen — has improvements designed to attract visitors. Responsibility for planning and maintenance should be directed to the Park Commission for inclusion in its capital improvement planning and budgeting." WHEREAS, the City Council, having considered the recommendations of staff, the Park Commission, and the Planning Commission, finds that it is in Shorewood's best interest to incorporate the language above into the Community Facilities Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Shorewood City Council that the Comprehensive Plan 2009 be amended to include the revision of Paragraph 5, Page CF -26 as set forth above, subject to review and comment by the Metropolitan Council.
