Upon receipt of two design concepts for the improvement to Badger Park, the Park Commission voted
to recommend Concept No. 1, which involved shifting the existing playfield to the south rather than
reorienting it in an east /west direction. The City Council chose not to take any action in November,
when this item appeared on its agenda. Concerns remain regarding the future of the South Shore
Community Center.
The work session scheduled for next Monday provides the Council with some time to discuss the two
concept alternatives in more detail. We have attached the Powerpoint presentation from the last meeting
as background for the discussion. We have also attached a preliminary cost estimate for elements of
Concept 1 (i.e. shifting the playfield and constructing additional parking).
Some question has arisen as to the cost of relocating the lights for the field. With Concept 1, the cost is
minimized. It may only require some re- direction of the existing lights. Moving the lights entirely is
estimated to cost between $50,000 and $70,000. All in all, Concept 1 appears to be the less expensive
of the two alternatives. We will review the cost implications at Monday night's meeting.
