West Water Tower Gets a Facelift
The City of Shorewood has two
water towers. Water towers
are the base of our city water
system, and because of their
steel composition and exposure
to the elements, periodic washing
or painting is required.
The west water tower was
built in 1985 and this is it's first
painting since then. Generally
painting takes place every 15 -20
years, with power washing of the
tower in between as needed.
Not just the outside of the tower
is painted. The inside is also

Wen mowing your lawn, turning your mower so the grass does not blow into storm drains, onto sidewalks or
trails, and into curbs and roadways, keeps the grass clippings from going through our storm water system
into lakes and streams. Grass clippings that get into the waterways add extra phosphorus to the water causing
the green algae blooms that you see on many of the small bodies of water in the area. Over time, a reduction of
phosphorus will help ease the algae bloom, but it takes the efforts of the entire community. If you have questions
aboutyour watershed district, or other ways you can help improve the health of our community lakes and waterways,
