Here is the information you requested My Interest: I am interested in serving on the Traffic Committee because of the community's widespread concern about the impact of the Minnetonka Country Club Mattany development project on our quality of life, particularly in the area of traffic congestion. I believe the issue and alternative solutions need careful study and analysis by experts in the field and am willing to dedicate my time to ensure that the needs of the community are kept at the forefront. What I Can Contribute: My background would lend itself to assisting with communications related to the traffic issue and proposed solutions. I am currently a Marketing and Communications Consultant and owner of Knutson Construction (commercial construction firm). I am not a traffic expert but have lead the planning, development and execution of marketing surveys, procured professional consulting firms, and managed a variety of research and communication programs. With respect to what I could bring to the committee, I am a new resident of Shorewood (Aug 5). I might think there would be value in having an "outside" perspective to local issues. Also, in my prior career I worked in law enforcement, so I have a sense of how traffic law is enforced and what is practical. I would enjoy the opportunity to provide input to our new community, and hopefully in an area that has some small meaningful impact to those affected! I am a homebuilder /remodeler and have in fact built a home on Minnetonka Dr., one on Yellowstone Trail and remodeled our own home as well as several neighbors on both streets. Our daughter goes to school at MMW, before that Excelsior Elementary. Many neighbors and their children walk to the bus stop(s) on Yellowstone Trail. I am concerned about the increased traffic on Yellowstone Rd. and particularly if it should impact the quiet, residential street on which I live... Minnetonka Dr. This street enjoys minimal traffic and many neighbors walk young children in strollers or bike along it regularly without fear of traffic. As a builder of over 20 years, I feel I have an understanding and appreciation of the challenges of development and would hope to provide sensible insight into fair ways to address these challenges.I hope that I might be considered for this committee. I would be an asset to the committee and would like to be on the committee for a number of reasons: - I live very close to the soon to be developed Minnetonka Country Club land - My husband and I drive around the area at all times of the day and so traffic flow is something I am very interested in - I have worked in Wayzata, downtown Minneapolis and Bloomington and fully understand the rush hour traffic situation to and from each of these directions - I have recently retired and have the time and energy to give something back to my community and have a big interest in this - While working I was a district manager at Wells Fargo so I understand how to balance the needs of the individual with the needs of the community - I am a logical thinker and can understand complex issues I hope you will consider me for this committee. Three main reasons come to mind to support my interest and qualification for being selected as a member of this committee. 1. When I look at the activity of assessing traffic volumes and flow, relative to street capacity, I clearly see a supply and demand efficiency exercise. I have over 20 years of Supply Chain planning and analysis history in my professional career which I believe would be of great value in serving this Committee's work. 2. In the Marcus Buckingham Strength Finder profile, three of my top five strengths are: Strategic, Ideation and Maximizer. All three should serve well in the activities needed from the Traffic Committee as I believe we will need to utilize all current traffic resources to the fullest, think outside the box for current traffic resources as well as any potential new traffic resources, and look further into the future as we consider all options. 3. Finally, I live on Eureka Road near the outlet of Mann Lane. I recognize this traffic committee is being formed to support the community as a whole, but I also recognize that the new Country Club development will have a huge impact on the volume of traffic in the area and is high on the list of the City Council concerns given the initial focus listed. Regardless of anything else, the volume of traffic is going to increase significantly in our area. I would much prefer to be a part of the solution, than complain about it later. I believe my family, friends and neighbors all have creative ideas as well and I would fully intend to tap into their creativity too. Thank you for considering me for the Traffic Committee.
