A RESOLUTION APPROVING PUBLICATION OF
ORDINANCE NO. 534 BY TITLE AND SUMMARY
WHEREAS, on 24 October 2016, the City Council of the City of Shorewood adopted
Ordinance No. 534 entitled "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE SHOREWOOD CITY
CODE TO REPLACE EXISTING CHAPTER 1101 IN ITS ENTIRETY WITH A REVISED
CHAPTER 1101 (FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT REGULATIONS) ";
WHEREAS, the City staff has prepared a summary of Ordinance No. 534 as follows:
1. The purpose of this ordinance is to regulate development in the flood hazard areas
of the City of Shorewood. These flood hazard areas are subject to periodic
inundation, which may result in loss of life and property, health and safety
hazards, disruption of commerce and governmental services, extraordinary public
expenditures for flood protection and relief, and impairment of the tax base. It is
the purpose of this chapter to promote the public health, safety, and general
welfare by minimizing these losses and disruptions.
2. This chapter is adopted to comply with the rules and regulations of the National
Flood Insurance Program codified as 44 Code of Federal Regulations Parts 59 —
78, as amended, so as to maintain the community's eligibility in the National
Flood Insurance Program.
3. This chapter is also intended to preserve the natural characteristics and functions
of watercourses and floodplains in order to moderate flood and stormwater
impacts, improve water quality, reduce soil erosion, protect aquatic and riparian
habitat, provide recreational opportunities, provide aesthetic benefits and enhance
community and economic development.
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SHOREWOOD:
1. The City Council finds that the above title and summary of Ordinance No. 534
clearly informs the public of intent and effect of the Ordinance.
2. The City Clerk is directed to publish Ordinance No. 534 by title and summary,
pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, Section 412.191, subdivision 4.
3. A full copy of the Ordinance is available at Shorewood City Hall and on the
city's website.
