10 October ShoreReportDonate Winter Coats and Gear
eeping kids warm throughout the cold winter
is essential in Minnesota. Too often, children
and adults brave tough weather with the bare _
minimum of winter outer wear — or none at —
all. ResourceWest receives frequent requests Do
from Hopkins and Minnetonka school staff
looking for winter clothing for students without
the most basic cold weather items.
To help meet the needs of ResourceWest,
city of Shorewood is a drop off site for winter
jackets, snow pants, boots, new hats and
mittens. The program services newborn through
age 18, so all sizes and gender clothing are
needed.
Please bring any winter clothing donations
to city hall by Friday, October 20. You may
also donate items at
the Saturday, October 7

Recycling Combined With Organics Wins
very household in the city
of Shorewood has the
opportunity to recycle curbside.
Through our curbside program,
each household is provided a cart
for every other week collection of
plastics, glass, cans, paper and
cardboard. The city participation
rate is one of the highest in the
county, generally being 89 -92% of
households putting out recycling at
least once per month.
Each household pays a fixed
amount quarterly for the recycling
service. This charge is evenly
distributed to each household in
the city, regardless of participation.
Additional dollars necessary to
help fund the recycling program is
provided through a county grant.
Beginning in 2017 and each year
after the recycling grant dollars
from the county will decrease and

organics collection, the more grant
money the city will receive from

City Updates Home Occupation Ordinance
On August 28 the city
amended the current
home occupation regulation.
The amendment makes the
regulations more clear and adds
a limit on the number of clients
or pupils that may come to a
residential property without a
special home occupation permit.
Special home occupation permits
must be approved by the city
council.
The regulations for home
occupations are intended to
balance the needs of residents
to operate businesses out of
their homes and the needs
of the adjacent neighbors to
enjoy their property. A home
occupation should operate with
limited impact on the adjacent
neighborhood.
The home occupation
regulations include limits on how
many employees, clients, pupils
or other customers may come
to the property, the hours of
operation, how many commercial
vehicles are allowed on the
property and where they can be
parked or stored. A copy of the
home occupation regulations are
available on the city website as
Ordinance 544 or call city hall,
952.960.7900, for a copy or with
questions.
Special Permit
Contact the city planning
department for more information
on special home occupation
permits. If you are required
to apply for a permit, please
complete the planning application
form. A public hearing with the
Planning Commission will be
required prior to approval by the
city council.

Are Partisanship and Factionalism the
Worst Ever?
This constitutional law scholar says no. It
was first created by James Madison and

in place which got the country through that
period of rancorous partisanship, as they

Got Paper? We can help'.
FREE Secure
Paper Shredding
Saturday, October 7
LO o a 11 PUa.m.
 o
24200 Smithtown Rd (County Road 19)
Here's how it works:
• Gather up all of your old files, tax returns, bank statements and any other secure papers you may
have (newspapers and non - secure papers should be put in your recycling cart and not brought
for shredding).
• Bring the items in paper bags or boxes to the city hall parking lot (bags will be returned)
• Cones will be set up to direct you in one driveway.
• Stay in your vehicle. Volunteers will remove your paper for the shred truck.
Know what to shred:
Although opinions differ on exactly what to shred, basically know that you should shred any documents
containing signatures, account numbers, social security numbers, credit card offers, and any legal or medical
information (including tax forms, checks, pay stubs, etc.). General mail, catalogs and flyers do not need to be
shredded, and are better recycled curbside. Contact jmoore @ci.shorewood, 952.960.7906, with questions.
What you need to know:
• Event will close during lightning storms.
• You will drive your vehicle into our facility for the
process where our staff and volunteers will un-
load it for you. Witnessed destruction can happen
at that time, if so desired.
• Paper only. Please do not bring any 3 ring bind -
ers, plastics, trash or other non -paper items.
` NO PLASTIC BAGS!
• All shredded paper is baled and shipped directly
to the paper mill for recycling.
• We make every effort to meet the shredding
needs of residents, but if both trucks fill the event
will close prior to 11 a.m.
