RESOLUTION APPROVING INITIATION OF 60 DAY NEGOTIATING
PERIOD WITH SOLID WASTE HAULERS
WHEREAS, Shorewood City Council has discussed the concept of creating an organized solid
waste collection system with the intention to improve service options, reduce cost to customers,
reduce road wear, and protect the environment; and
WHEREAS, Minnesota Statutes Section 115.94, Subd. 4d provides a specific process for
considering such a system; and
WHEREAS, The first step in the statutory process is to enter a 60 -day negotiation period with
the present licensed haulers that will provide the city an opportunity to present the priorities and
services the city desires in any system. The interested haulers, as a group, develop and present a
proposal for the city to consider; and
WHEREAS, Initiating this process does not guarantee an agreement will be reached. Any
decision regarding moving to an organized system will be made at a future, duly - called public
hearing.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Shorewood City Council, pursuant to the
statutory process, hereby approves entering a 60 -day negotiating period with the licensed haulers
effective April 30, 201, and that staff is hereby directed to publish and post the notice attached to
this Resolution, or in substantially the same form, and to notify the current city - licensed solid
waste haulers of the City Council decision.
