Watering Or(
Lawn watering uses a significant portion of our
water supply. It is important that residents and
businesses follow the city's watering ordinance.
This allows Shorewood's water
system not only an adequate
opportunity to replenish the
supply in the city's water storage
tanks, but also ensures there is
enough water for all uses.
The city's ordinance states that
residents and businesses can
water before 11 a.m. and after
4:30 p.m., May 1 - September 30.
Residents should work with their sprinkler system
providerto make sure watering times are scheduled
to water within ordinance hours. Remember to
check the timer on your watering system after
power outages so that you are not in violation of
the restriction.
Fees for violating the water use restrictions
are determined by the number of water
restriction violations issued to the owner:
• First offense - $50
• Each additional offense - $25 increase
(e.g. 2nd violation $75, 3rd violation
$100, etc.)
No warnings are given for violation of
watering restrictions. Check the city
website for lawncare information which
includes lawn water needs.
EXEMPTIONS: Private wells are exempt from the ordinance;
however, the city encourages homeowners to conserve their
water resources during peak hours. Activities such as play
toys, car washing, and hand watering are exempt if attended.
Call the city at 952.960.7900, if you have questions.
Spring gleaning for Pet Owners
icking up after your pet is more than a courtesy
to others, it is also a necessity for the health
of the community. When animal feces is not
picked up, it is washed into nearby storm drains
and waterways during rains. Because of the
e -coli levels of pet waste, this adds to the a -coli
contamination of our streams and lakes.
What you can do
When walking your pet, bring an eco- friendly bag,
such as a used bread orgrocery bag. Tie and throw
in a trash can, not recycling or compost.
• Carry an extra bag to avoid being caught off
guard or to give to someone that appears to have
forgotten their bag
• Clean up pet waste in your yard weekly
.nergy Audit
Shorewood has a goal of 90 homes having an
energy analysis done each year. To encourage
residents to participate, the city offering half off
Home Energy Squad visits - -from $100 to only $50
for the first 25 homeowners who sign up.
The audit includes:
• Installation of free materials such as LED bulbs,
a programmable thermostat, door and attic hatch
weather stripping, high- efficiency showerhead
and faucet aerators
• Attic and wall insulation inspection
• Perform a blowerdoor and thermal image testing
• Complete a combustion safety test and carbon
monoxide check
Available Half Off
• Provide you with a customized report with
additional recommendations
If your home needs insulation or air sealing crews
will provide a quote for the recommended work and
connect you to a qualified contractorthat will honor
the quote. You will also be connected to the Energy
Advisor Service to help you with next steps.
To schedule an appointment for a Home Energy
Squad visit call 651.328.6220.
Home Energy Squad is pro vided by CenterPoint Energy and Xcel
Energy and delivered by the Center for Energy and Environment
(CEE), a Minnesota nonprofit.

Buy Recycled Paint to Close the Loop
aint is one of the most
common materials brought
to a Hennepin County drop -off
facility or collection event for
recycling — the county collected
nearly 130,000 gallons of paint
for recycling in 2017. But many
residents aren't aware that they
can close the loop by purchasing
recycled paint.
The latex paint brought to the
county's facilities and events is
sent to Amazon Environmental
where it is recycled into Low
Sheen Amazon Select Paint.
Amazon Select Paint can be
purchased locally at the Amazon
Paint store in Fridley or the
Habitat for Humanity Restore in
Minneapolis or New Brighton.

Frequent Spring Projects
Docks -,heds
othing feels like lake living
more than putting that dock
out on the water as soon as
the ice melts. Some things to
remember about docks before
you put them in
the water:
• Docks are
accessory
structures,
limited to one
per lot, and are
only permitted
on residential
properties that
have a home
• They must be
located at least
10 feet from the property's
side lot lines, projected into the
lake, and may connect to the
shoreline at only one location
• Docks may not be wider than
four feet with the exception of
one location that may be no
wider or longer than eight feet
• The dock must extend into the
lake at least eight feet beyond
the ordinary high -water mark
before branching out into slips
• No dock may block any
channel or another property's
access to the lake or create a
safety or navigational hazard
• All docks are required to
meet the Lake Minnetonka
Conservation District's code
of ordinances
he Minnesota State Building
Code recently changed
the rules for the size of sheds/
detached garages that need
building permits prior to
construction. The
city's rules have
also changed to
be consistent with
the state's rules.
If a shed is
over 200 square
feet of floor area,
a building permit
is required for
construction; if
the shed is 200
square feet or less
of floor area, a zoning permit is
required for construction.
Contact planning staff with
questions at 952.960.7900 or
planning@ci.shorewood.mn.us.
Over 200 square feet
With a building permit, an
applicant would submit
plans identifying the detailed
construction plans including
foundation type, wall and roof
construction, building elevations,
exterior materials and other
details to indicate the shed would
be designed consistent with the
building code.
,)M Squar` . eet or I
With a zoning permit, an
applicant submits general
information about the shed
including the height, width,
length, exterior materials and
what it would look like.
Both types of permits require
the applicant to submit a survey
identifying the proposed location
of the shed in relation to the
property lines, the total amount
of impervious surfaces (such
as concrete or brick) before and
after construction, and the total
amount of square footage of all
accessory structures (including
attached garages). Additionally,
applicants must make sure their
shed is the required distance
from the property lines, which
varies by the size of the structure
and the property's zoning district.
All sheds are limited to 15
feet in height or one story and
must be designed similar and
consistent with other buildings
on the site Canvas or plastic
sheds are not permitted. No shed
may be used as living quarters,
either permanently, temporarily
or seasonally.
Permit applications are available
on the city's website under "online
forms" or at city hall. Contact

Paper Shredding
Saturday, May 19
9 am -12 prn
Shorewood City Hall, 5755 Country Club Road
Here's how it works:
Gather up all of your old files, tax returns, bank statements and any other secure papers you may have
(newspapers and non - secure papers should be put in your recycling cart and not brought for shredding).
Bring the items in paper bags or boxes to the city hall parking lot (bags will be returned).
Cones will be set up to direct you in one driveway.
Stay in your vehicle - volunteers will remove your paper for the shred truck.
What to Shred (and what not to)
Although opinions differ on exactly what to shred, basically know that you should shred any documents containing
signatures, account numbers, social security numbers, credit information, and any legal or medical information (in-
cluding tax forms, checks, pay stubs, etc.). General mail, catalogs and flyers do not need to be shredded, and are
better recycled curbside. When possible tear off the account information or name and address, recycle the remaining
paper rather than shredding the entire piece. Contact cityhall @ci.shorewood.mn.us, 952.960.7900, with questions.
