Fall yard waste and brush disposal
Yard waste, such as grass
clippings, leaves and
branches, is a valuable resource
that can add nutrients back into
your yard or be recycled into
compost. It is illegal to put this
kind of waste in your household
trash cart. Yard and tree waste
includes: brush, garden debris,
grass clippings, leaves, sod, logs,
trees and stumps, indoor and
outdoor plants, mulch and wood
chips.
Manage yard waste
• Leave grass clippings on your
lawn. This will add valuable
nutrients, reduce the need for
fertilizer, and reduce waste
• Backyard composting: Use a
compost bin for garden, yard
and some food waste. More
information is atwww.hennepin.

Do not bag recycling
To assist the recycling
contractor with recycling
sorting, residents are discouraged
from bagging recycling in the cart.
No plastic bags should be recycled
in the cart and recycling should
not be bagged in plastic bags
for collection. If you collect your
recyclables in paper bags, empty
the paper bag into your cart when
possible.
Shredded paper
Do not put loose shredded
paper in the recycling cart. If you
bag paper that is shredded at
home, do not put it in the recycling
cart. Instead, bring it to the city
shred event for collection, or take
it to one of the county drop off
centers. This prevents the small
pieces of paper from getting in the
glass and plastic recycling.

Secure Residential
Paper Shredding
Saturday, September 22
9 a.m. -12 p.m.
Shorewood City Hall, 5755 Country Club Road
Here's how it works:
• Gather up all of your old files, tax returns, bank statements and any other secure
papers you may have (newspapers and non - secure papers should be put in your
recycling cart and not brought for shredding).
• Bring the items in paper bags or boxes to the city hall parking lot (bags and boxes
will be returned).
• Cones will be set up to direct you in one driveway.
• Stay in your vehicle - volunteers will remove your paper for the shred truck.
What to Shred (and what not to)
Although opinions differ on exactly what to shred, basically know that you should
shred any documents containing signatures, account numbers, social security num-
bers, credit information, and any legal or medical information (including tax forms,
checks, pay stubs, etc.). General mail, catalogs and flyers do not need to be shred-
ded, and are better recycled curbside. When possible tear off the account information
or name and address, recycle the remaining paper rather than shredding the entire
piece. Contact cityha11 @ci.shorewood.mn.us, 952.960.7900, with questions.
What you need to know
• Event will close during dangerous weather or if truck fills.
• You will drive your vehicle into our facility for the process where our staff and vol-
unteers will unload it for you. Witnessed destruction can happen at that time, if so
desired.
• Paper only. Please do not bring any three -ring binders, plastics, trash or other non -
paper items
• NO PLASTIC BAGS!
• All shredded paper is baled and shipped directly to the paper mill for recycling.
• We make every effort to meet the shredding needs of residents, but if the trucks fill
the event will close prior to 12 p.m.
