PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, The City of Shorewood residents, businesses and other organizations are
contributors to the waste stream
WHEREAS, The City of Shorewood believes we must be good stewards of our
resources
WHEREAS, The City of Shorewood supports the Hennepin County initiatives to reduce
the recyclable materials that are going into the waste stream
WHEREAS, Shorewood residents are very environmentally aware but recycling
correctly is more complicated than the general populace currently understands
WHEREAS, The City of Shorewood believes we have many residents and businesses
who will voluntarily help achieve these intentions.
WHEREAS, The City of Shorewood commits to actively pursue resident recycling
education and resident involvement in recycling programs.
WHEREAS, The Shorewood residents can do more to capture highly valuable and
recyclable materials in the recycling stream
WHEREAS, The Shorewood residents can do more to eliminate incorrect materials
from the recycling stream
WHEREAS, The Shorewood residents can do more to reduce the total amount of
waste and recycling that would eventually find its way into the waste and
recycling streams through a focus on "zero waste"
NOW, THEREFORE, WE, the City Council of Shorewood Minnesota do hereby
proclaim the year 2020 to be the year to launch our recycling education and
programs under the banner of "Recycling: 2020 and Beyond ".
