20-012CITY OF SHREWOOD COUNTY OF HENNEPIN STATE OF MINNESOTA RESOLUTION 20 -012 A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE PUBLICATION OF ORDINACE 571 REGARDING TOBACCO SALES IN TITLE AND SUMMARY WHEREAS, at a duly called meeting on January 27, 2020, the City Council of the City of Shorewood adopted Ordinance No. 571 entitled "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 302 OF SHOREWOOD CITY CODE TITLED "SALE OF TOBACCO ", and WHEREAS, The City Council has adopted a lengthy ordinance amending City Code Chapter 302 to reflect and align with legislation signed on December 20, 2019 that amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and raises the federal minimum age of sale of tobacco products from 18 to 21 years. It is now illegal for a retailer to sell tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21; and WHEREAS, The changes to Chapter 302 include incorporating this new age requirement of 21 years into current city code where it was previously 18 years of age. In addition, housekeeping updates to the chapter include removing an outdated reference to offender education programs and updating the definition of a minor as applicable; and WHEREAS,The purpose of this summary is to inform the public of the intent and effect of the ordinance but to publish only a summary of the ordinance with the full ordinance being on file in the office of the City Clerk during regular office hours and available on the city's website; NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHOREWOOD: The City Council finds that the above title and summary of Ordinance No. 571 clearly informs the public of the intent and effect of the Ordinance. 2. The City Clerk is directed to publish Ordinance No. 571 by title and summary, pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, Section 412.191, Subdivision 4. Such summary is to be substantially the same as the attached form. 3. A full copy of the Ordinance is available at Shorewood City Hall and on the city's website.
