All outdoor wood- burning fur- 1005.01 Purpose 1005.02 Definitions 1005.03 Permit required 1005.04 Minimum standards 1005.05 Existing furnaces 1005.06 Penalties 1005.01 PURPOSE. It is generally 'recognized the types of fuel used, and the scale and duration of burning by outdoor wood -burn- ing furnaces, creates noxious and hazardous smoke, soot, fumes, odors and air pollution, can be detrimental to citizens' health, and can deprive neighboring residents of the enjoyment of their property or premises. Therefore, with the adoption of this ordinance, it is the in- tention of the City of Shorewood to establish and impose restrictions upon the construction, installation and opera- tion of outdoor wood- buming fur a eF ui within the city im its of Shorewood for the purpose 9 p o . ing the public health, safety and general welfare of the.city and its inhabitants. 1005.02 DEFINITIONS. For the purpose of this chapter,.the following defirri- tions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or re- quires a different meaning. OUTDOOR WOOD- BUANhW FURNACE. Any con- trivance, apparatus; or any part thereof; that is installer#,. . affixed or situated out -of -doors for the primary purpose of the combustion of wood, from which heat or energy is de- rived and intended to be directed there from by conduit or other mechanism into any interior space for the supply of heat or energy. 1Q05.03 PERMIT REQUIRED. No person shall construct, install, use or operate an outdoor wood - burning furnace in Shorewood without first having obtained a building permit from the Shorewood Building Official. 1005.04 MINIMUM STANDARDS. Subd. 1. Installation. All outdoor wood- burning fur- naces shall have an approved listing by Un- derwriter's Laboratories (UL), shall be in- stalled according to the manufacturer's instal - lation instructions, and shall comply with emission standards promulgated by the U.nft , ed States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA). Subd. 2. Minimum lot size. No outdoor wood - burning furnace shall be located on property smaller Subd. 3. than three acres in land area. .
