Dear Dudley, It is my duty to inform you that Excelsior Lodge No. 113 recently passed a resolution setting the rental of the base- ment of the Masonic temple at $50.00 per day. We realize that this is a large increase from the rental previously charged, but as I explained to you, over the phone, the old rental rate has been in effect for quite a number of years, set when operating costs were only about one-third of what they are at the present tine. We have long hesitatecI to raise the rate to the Town of Excelsior as we all wished to do what we could to contribute to "public service" but the in- creased operating costs have finally got to where we oan no longer stand the pressure,and it is actually cheaper for us to keep the building closed to affairs of this kind, than to rent it for a smaller fee. According to our records, the Town owes us for three meetings or elections during 1954 and one in 1955, a total of $60.00. Wanld you please send us a cheek at your earliest opportunity. These contracts, as you know, consist of several mimeographed pages and each contract ha,s a provision tlkat either party may cancel out on a thirty (30) day notice providing that all bills are paid. With very few exceptions the contracts have been the same year after year. It has cost our office considerable money, not only for mimeo- graphing these contra,cts annually, but also for the postage required. .At the last general meeting held in Brooklyn Center it was decided that instead of mailing a new contract each year, we would in the future mail only a copy of a resolution renewing the old contract until such time as ~ change was made in this contract when we would thereupon mail you a new one.
