At the end of February, several park commissioners from the South Lake Minnetonka communities
met to discuss possible cooperative efforts that might be explored by the five South Lake cities. The
meeting was well received and those in attendance agreed that discussions should continue. Next
Tuesday, 21 May, a second meeting has been scheduled at the South Shore Community Center,
beginning at 7:00 P.M.
A draft agenda is attached. The first item on the agenda is to discuss some sort of organizational
structure for future meetings. Shorewood staff continues to work on the South Lake Minnetonka
Parks and Recreation map and hopefully will have a draft available for review at Tuesday night’s
meeting. Finally, a suggestion at the last meeting to develop a website for South Lake park and
recreation opportunities has been considered. None of the cities appear to have adequate staffing to
develop or maintain a separate website. However, Shorewood has now included a separate tab or
link, called “Explore Lake Minnetonka” on its website. To review it, go to
www.ci.shorewood.mn.us. The success of this effort will depend on the other communities
forwarding us information to “feed the site”.
