At last year's park tour it was suggested that the hockey boards be painted white like the City of Edina's hockey rinks. Staff was discussing different options we could do in dressing up the hockey rink boards. One suggestion is to have volunteers help paint the boards like Tonka Bay did in at Manitou Park. This past June 15 volunteers (residents, past volunteers, their Parks and Landscape Committee) spent about 2.5 hours painting the fence. Residents were asked to bring a paint roller, painting clothes, water and sunscreen. They used approximately 20 gallons of paint. The total cost for paint, supplies and rental of the paint sprayer was $1,101. One of their councilmembers asked a local business if they would be willing to donate food and they did. Shorewood could promote a paint party in the August newsletter, Facebook, a -news and the city website. The painting party would be scheduled in September. We would ask that people RSVP so we know how many volunteers we would have. The Capital Improvement Program has allotted $150,000 for the hockey boards in 2021. Public works replaced boards last year and in looking at the boards this year, there are about 4 boards that need to be replaced. If the Park Commission decides to go with the painting party, they could also decide whether to remove the project from the CIP or move the project back several years. Recommendation /Action Requested: If the Park Commission approves the painting party, staff will place an article in the newsletter, Facebook, a -news and website. 2018 Park Tour Items Needing to be Updated /Repaired FREEMAN PARK There was discussion regarding rink and warming house at Eddy Station(No warming house for 2018/2019 season) There are no outlets inside the warming house Rubber mats for rink Security issues brought up were as follows: Cannot see if anyone is skating — Video System was suggested Lighting and sign outside so people know there is a warming house (perhaps on timers) and when it is open Bathrooms are locked from inside • North playground — Graffiti on sign by the regional trail needs to be cleaned up. • Public Works Director is checking on fog sealing that the City of Minnetrista has used to see if this is something that can be used on the trails • Concrete in front of Little League concession and parking lot needs repair • P;,.,,ie tables at the plat place this etA Taft e f of the CIP (Done) • Planning Difeetef Dafli j that the eity has 2 dogwood tfees to plant and it was suggested they be planted by the rl (They have since been planted) waiting for an estimate firoM. ton (Done — schedule spring follow -up visit) CATHCART PARK • Hockey Rink — it was suggested paving the rink as street hockey is becoming popular • City of Edina has wood rinks — a suggestion was painting the boards white • Playground equipment - touch up with paint • Play structure sign is missing, remove the posts (Posts are removed) • Need new backboard at tennis court (In progress) • Net needs to be replaced at one of the basketball hoops (Nets have been replaced) eett GIDEON GLEN Staff will contact Minnewashta Elementary in the fall to see if they can get feedback regarding classes visiting Gideon Glen No maintenance or CIP items were identified BADGER PARK Done • Ptiblie Wefks ean stf ip gfass on the pafking lot side of the laefesse field feflee Done • Planning Difeetef Dafling stated that they would be hydfo seeding fef efesion eent the pafking Finished. • Drop off Sign should be installed when paving is complete.
