12-021CITY OF SHOREWOOD RESOLUTION NO. 12-021 A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 27, 2012 AS ARBOR DAY WHEREAS, Arbor Day was officially proclaimed by Nebraska's state Governor in 1874 and is now observed throughout the nation and the world, and WHEREAS, trees use up excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and turn it into life- giving oxygen; and WHEREAS, trees help conserve energy; that is, three properly planted trees around a home can cut air conditioning bills by ten to fifteen percent; and WHEREAS, trees turn urban "heat islands" into cool and comfortable "oasis ", making the concrete jungle livable for all of us; and WHEREAS, trees beautify our community. NOW, THERE BE IT RESOLVED by the Shorewood City Council that the City of Shorewood hereby proclaims Friday, April 27, 2012, as the celebration of Arbor Day, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Shorewood City Council encourages all residents of Shorewood to celebrate Arbor Day by protecting our trees and woodlands, and planting a tree, thereby hoping to ensure a green Shorewood and Minnesota in decades to come.
