2. DISCUSSION ON SMITHTOWN ROAD
Engineer Brown introduced Dave Hutton, professional engineer and consultant for WSB and Associates. He
also explained a draft feasibility report had been prepared by Mr. Hutton regarding the Smithtown Road
Rehabilitation Project. Engineer Brown then explained there were many obstacles to overcome in trying to
maintain use of Municipal State Aid funds in this project. However, a feasible solution had been found with
several alternatives for consideration. One of these alternatives included a reconstruction project; another
included a pavement reclamation project; and a third alternative included an overlay project.
As a result of the review of the feasibility report by Mr. Hutton and Engineer Brown, and discussion regarding
right-of-way issues and potential pedestrian circulation in the area, Council gave consensus for a pavement
reclamation project with potential design to include a two-foot shoulder on the southerly side, two eleven-foot
driving lanes, and a four-foot shoulder on the northerly side. Engineer Brown stated a final feasibility report
would be presented to Council at the November 5,2001, Regular City Council Meeting for further review.
Council thanked Engineer Brown and Mr. Hutton for their efforts in this project thus far.
