The asking price in 1966 was $32,000 but the property did
not sell.

senting him. He purchased the property 8 -10 years ago. The
plot :includes 52 acres.

Remaining acres are heavily -wooded housing dear and other
wildlife. This sec pion zs p- obably not buildable.
2 streams run through property.
Property is ad jacent to baseball field, New Field, owne
by the Little League. It could probably eventually be pur-
chased.

Sewer asse ssment is $26,000. There are some penalties
acruing on taxes.
Mr. Freeman is enthusias about. making parkland of the

with the state to make this possible. Adjacent landowners
are enthusiastic.
Chairman 'Dean will contact Mr. Freeman directly for the
purchase price and the Options that might be open to Oche

In hi research, Bil cazie across a rough copy of a Park
and trail Ludy done in 1960 & reviewed again in 1970 by
done by Nlason Wehrma Knigh t and Chapman for $8, 000. Bill
will follow up on it and supply copies f or the commission.

access. It is owned by Mr. He:cman, who was not available but
was thought not to be interested. Mr. Wahl, Vine Hill grocer,
wi ll allow acces - through his property so that the ,park may

Bill Keeler expressed his feeling that the money would be most
effectively spent and have greater impact if it were put into our
three existing parks, Cathcart, Badger and Manor.` Cathcart arid
Manor Parks have incomplete tennis courts. Badger needs sod and
seed to keep the grading from eroding. Lights and equipment will
also be needed here.
Dave Albrecht expressed concern over losing the opportunity

part of our purpose to acquire land
Lowell Frost expressed his feeling that Manor Park is much too
small to be useful and ghat a cq uiring the adjacent prvnerty would
make it a valuable asse He To 'remin ,ecl - Me c ommit that
. the taspayer will have to absorb the sewer assessments ; on all the
property in question if purchased for parkland---a sizeable burden
to the a taxpayer

1. Is our money be tiGe spent developing trails and wild
areas at low cost or equipping 11 playP parks at higher
costs?

would use play fields and picnic areas?
We discussed establishing long and short range goals. We also
discussed the need to change the present Ordinance dealin with f ees'
paid to the village by developers.
Recomnendatiio f o r Febr uary 10 Council Meeting- -
Motion: It was moved by Bil Smith and seconded by Lowell Frost
that the Shorewood Parr` Commission recommend
THAT the present Ordinance be ammended to read, the
city will have the option to ask for 8% of the purchased
