Shorewood Park Commission
Minutest February L 1979
Members Present: Chairman Don Goettelman, ' Lindstrom,
John Breckheimer, Connie Schmid, Roger Stein,
Robert Nygaard and Win Drews.
The Chairman called the meeting to order at 7s40 P.M. Mr. Schmid's
last name was corrected. Balance of minutes approved.
The Chairman presented his views of Mr. Erkkila's presentation of
the Long Range Park Plan for Shorewood. It now does not conform
to Metro Council. If we do not revise it to meet th&ir specifica-
tions then most of our funding would be lost. He presented a re-
view manual comparing other cities and suggestions for change and
needs. Options are that the Park Commission could rewrite the
Plan themselves, take on dual responsibilities for revision or
have his firm do the whole job, Vice-Chairman John Breckheimer
stated that he would hate to see our original long-range plan
book become obsolete. He suggested that maps be redone. There
followed considerable discussion of item 2-:Classification. John
Breckheimer also recommended we insert new guidelines. Needed
attention areas: There is no mention of finances , funding or
budgets. The Park Commission has not been inv6lved in previous
decisions regarding funding regarding the option to receive land
or dollars. The Secretary read an article published by the Sun
Newspapers released on Jan- 31, 1979. The Commission feels it
• must come to an agreement regarding policy.
Robert Nygaard moved, Connie Schmid 2nd thats We recommend to
the Council of Shorewood that we hire Midwest Planning and Re-
search, Inc. to develop a new Shorewood Long -Range Park Plan
booklet which would conform to the Metro Council Comphrensive
Plan. Connie Schmid then ammended the motion to reads That the
new booklet include the history of Shorewood and an update of
original philosophy. Win Drews seconded. Discussion followed by
a unanimous vote of approval. It was noted that if the original
Shorewood Long-Range Park Plan booklet was used as a gkide then
the cost and effort would not be wasted.
Connie Schmid will talk to Mayor Frazier regarding a meeting
with the Park Commission.
John Breckheimer gave a brief re-cap on progress at Badger.
Lights and insulation are finished by the continued efforts of
Mr. Breckheimer. A bid has been received from Burke of $
City must set furnaces. Burke will do ducting. We are already
over our $30,000 budget.
Imperative to the Commission agenda.-discussion of possible
Lake access.
