SHOREWOOD PARK COMMISSION
Regular Meeting
Members Presents Chairman Don Goettleman, Councilman Keeler,
Robert Nygaard, Gordon Lindstrom, Win Drews.
The Chairman reported on the Near Mountain project and after
much discussion it is still the concensus of the Park Comm.
to obtain property vs. $ "s from the developer. It is imper-
ative that the Silver Lake regain a natural preserve and
available to the public. The Commission discussed a contin-
gency program and plan for policing in caseof future problems.
Midwest Planners still feel we need an athletic activity park
north of Covington Rd. but keep Silver Lake in a natural state.
Lengthy discussion of the Freeman property. Please be noted
that the iast*_neeting of the Park Commission on June 4, 1979
attended by Breckheimer, Lindstrom, Stein, Schmid, Keeler and
Drews accompanied by Tim Frkila of Midwest Planners was spent
in walking the newly aquired Freeman property and discussing
the possibilities for planning. The meeting ended at the Bad-
ger Park building with a discussion of needs to complete the
building and time elements within which to work.
Important in the Freeman property acquisition is continued
public access= a total facility at some future date, etc.
The Park Commission thus duly recommends to the City of Shore
. wood Council that
The newly acquired land knownas the Freeman property be named
The Stefan F. Freeman Park in as much ass
Mr. Freeman has continually, over the years, retained the
land from development and allowed multi -use by area residents,
and, has always wanted to see a high - activity park in the area,
and has continued to retain a high level of values in the over-
all projection of development of the area.
Further discussion of the marsh areas was enthusiastic. The
commission feels the Freeman property will take extensive plan -
ning and feel Midwest Planners will be beneficial in input.
The Commission noted tasks still remaining at the Badger bldg.
to be completed and discussed time schedules. It was also noted
that our first priorities lie in completion of things begun.
The next neeting will be held on the Manor Park property at
7 :30 P.M. on July 16, 1979
Meeting adjourned - at 9,30 P.M.

asked the Park Commission for suggestions as to the name of the new
park. It was decided to meet at the park site at 6s00 P.M. on June 4
with this goal in mind.
Gordy Lindstrom suggested that future Park Meetings be conducted
at the variouse sites during the summer.
The Chairman will contact Midwest Planning R.E. the status of the long
range plan, the near mountain project and the possiable uses of the new
park site.
John Breckheimer reported on the status of the Park building at
Badger. Protective covering for the windows is still a problem. All
members are asked to be alert to a practical soltion. John needs some
help with the outside trim. On June 4th-(after the tour of the freeman
property) the park commission will meet at Badger. All members are asked
to bring their hammers.
The long range maintence and orgaization of the new Park building and
other park sites, are a concern of the Park Commission. It is the unanimous
feeling of the Park Commission that the following resolution be considered.
The Shorewood Park Commission suggests the Shorewood Council take
under advisement -' .: the hiring of a person for Park Care. Duties would
be as followes.
. 1. Physical care and mainterance of existing and future Park
properties.
2. Administrative responsibility of warming house attendents.
3. Scheduling of Park activities. Use of hooky rink, football field ect.
Concession stand supervision.
In the interest of keeping expences to the villiage as low as
possiable, we would suggest this poition be filled by a senior citzen of
the commuinity•
