MINUTES
CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Goettelman called the regular Park Commission meeting to order at 7:56 P.M.
ROLL CALL
Those in attendance were Carol Chapman, Gordon Lindstrom, Bob Nygaard,
Roger Stein (arr 8:10), Don Goettelman, and Gary Carl. Also, Council Liaison
Tad Shaw. Those absent: Conrad Schmid.
APPROVAL OF JUNE 1 1981 PARK COMMISSION MINUTES:
On Page 2 o 3 under' = BMX Freeman Park Bleachers Satellites), starting with
"Due to the..�and ending with...vote Carl abstaining . ", it is amended to read
as follows:
Because of the increased use of the BMX facilities, the Shorewood BMX
Association plans on purchasing and installing bleachers at their facility,
Goettelman motioned, Nygaard seconded, for the recommendation to the
Council that the BMX Association be granted approval for this action.
• Motion carried. 5-0 (Carl abstaining).
On Page 2 of 3, in regards to the last paragraph starting with " Goettelman motioned,
Lindstrom seconded, for the recommendation that the City Administrator be given
the authority..." - Nygaard motioned, Chapman seconded, that due to the changeover
in the Administrator of the City, that this matter be postponed. Motion carried. 6 -0.
On Page 3 of 3, under REPORTS: Council -Tad Shaw starting with "Shaw reported from
Council Meeting of June 1, 1981 that Near Mountain..." is to be amended by
Goettelman's motion, Chapman's second, that it read as follows:
Shaw reported from Council Meeting of June 1, 1981 that Near Mountain must
either pay in bulk prior to the filing of the overall plan, or as an option
they can pay the lot fee that exists at the time the plat is filed.
Motion carried. 6-0.
Lindstrom motioned, Stein seconded, to approve the foregoing amendments to the
June 1, 1981 Park Commission minutes. Motion carried. 6-0.
HIGHWAY 7 INGRESS AND EGRESS FREEMAN PARK:
A. Maintenance Plan of Parks.
Discussion centere around ideas and possibilities of establishing a detailed
maintenance plan so that the basic rules are set doom. How to establish
priorities. Perhaps make up a list with each item having a procedure that
can be and should. be followed. For example, the proper way to mow a football
field is crosswise and not lengthwise. Perhaps establish a
able to find out how something should be done.

After a discussion relating to the dangerous intersection at Freeman Park and
State Highway 7, Carl motioned, Chapman seconded, to ask the Council to direct
the City Engineer to take whatever action is necessary to...
1. Erect a sign on both sides of the entrance to Freeman Park
stating: Freeman Park - Home of
South Tonka Little League,
Babe Ruth Baseball
American Legion Baseball
Shorewood BMX Association
t 2. Erect warning signs on both sides stating something like the
' following: Caution - Park Entrance - 500 Feet
3. Erect a Stop sign at the exit from Freeman Park onto Highway 7
4. Erect 10 MPH Speed Limit and Caution - Children signs within
the Park
�. 5. Consider extending the 45 mph speed limit west of the Cathcart
Park entrance.
Motion carried. 6-0.
REPORTS:
— Council Liaison Tad Shaw reported on the meeting of the June 8, 1981 Council
Meeting.
—No one reporting in regards to the Planning Commission meeting of June 2, 1981.
OTHER MATTERS
A tour of the BMX Association's Race Track was given to all present by Gary Carl.

Lindstrom motioned, Stein seconded for adjournment at 10:45 P.M. Motion carried.
