032282 PK MIN SPCITY OF SHOREWOOD CITY HALL SPECIAL PARK COMMISSION MEETING 5755 COUNTRY CLUB ROAD MONDAY, MARCH 22, 1982 7 :30 P.M. M I N U T E S CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Carl at 7 :36 P.M. in the City Hall offices. ROLL CALL: Present: Gary Carl, Carol Chapman, Don Goettelman, Gordon Lindstrom, Roger Stein. Absent: Conrad Schmid - prior committment. Council Liaison, Tad Shaw - attending City Council Meeting. Also Present: Ann Bronken, Northwest Associated Consultants, Inc. FREEMAN PARK PLANS. The meeting was called to make any changes, adjustments, or additions to the initial park proposal 'for presentation to the public on April 5th. After a review of the graphics, planner Bronken was asked to incorporate the following into the plans: 1) A mound or natural barrier should be added near the east entrance to lest- sen the effects of traffic, headlights on the Eureka Road neighbors. 2) The hard court games should be moved closer to the picnic area or possibly near the east entrance. It might also serve as overflow parking. 3) The free skating area should be cut in half. This would still allow ade- quate space but would reduce the costs of maintenance. 4) If possible, an archery range should be included. This would require 300 ft. 5) The Hennepin County Railroad right -of -way is a potential recreation trail and should be noted_;in,t.he plans. 6) The nature study areas should be emphasized. 7) Check to be certain that the trail does not infringe upon private property. 8) The accompanying exercise course should be identified in the plans. 9) Restroom and water facilities need to be shown. Other points of discussion: - A dog /pet policy needs to be developed. - The trails will not necessarily be blacktopped. - Water facilities need to be addressed for the park - for both field maintenance, and inside /outside drinking fountains. - The Commission should continue to look at a north entrance. - The free skating area should be promoted. 40 - Funding for the park development will be the next phase of the project. PARK COMMISSION MEETING - 2 - MARCH, 22 1982 Freeman Park Discussion Continued: - As of this meeting, no neighborhood conference had been arranged. Gordon Lindstrom was asked to contact a few neighbors. Commission Members listed days they would be available: (3:30 or 4:00 P.M.) Saturday. April 3rd Carl Chapman Goettelman Lindstrom Stein Sunday, April 4th Carl Chapman Goettelman - For the regular April 5th meeting it was agreed that Ann Bronken would present the general concept and proposal for Freeman Park. Chairperson Carl would make the introduction and give a brief history of the project. ADJOURNMENT. Goettelman made a motion to adjourn, Stein seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
