040284 PK MIN Festival of ParksCITY OF SHOREWOOD FESTIVAL OF PARKS MEETING MONDAY, APRIL 2, 1984 M I N U T E S CALL TO ORDER COUNCIL CHAMBERS 5755 COUNTRY CLUB ROAD 6:30 P.M. Meeting was called to order by Chairman Gary Carl at 6:30 P.M. ROLL CALL Present: Chairman Gary Carl; Park Commissioners Gordy Lindstrom, Roger Stein, Marty Jakel, Mari Kooi, Ron Kramer, George Cranbrook, Lonnie Cousins. ENVELOPES Chairman Carl handed out envelopes for every activity, asking that these be returned after the Festival with all information from this year to be used to simplify matters next year. JOB DESCRIPTION Chairman Carl also read a job description to those present, to be typed by staff and mailed to all involved. He emphasized the fact that all activities should be finalized by May 15th and any that are not totally completed by June 1st will be dropped. REPORTS Balloon Rides - Ron Kramer Ron has been in touch with several different people and things look favorable. He has checked on the insurance coverage in each instance. He will draft a letter and give to staff to type on City letterhead. Advertising - Lonnie Cousins Lonnie talked to Sue Berg (474 -4545) from the bookstore in Excelsior. The Chamber of Commerce is paying for advertising Excelsior's "Art Fair" and she will include the Festival. Softball - George Cranbrook George will contact Jim Jones about keeping Cathcart and Freeman Fields open June 23rd. He thought having more teams involved this year would be a good idea. Volleyball - Ron Kramer This depends on space - Ron will bring two sets, possibly set up one to start with - these are for fun only - no contests. Tractor -Mower Races - Ron Kramer Tractor - mowers - blades removed - possibly pushing the big earth ball, one tractor at a time, through a slalom course. Bingo - Lannie George, Tonka Mens Club Lannie will be present at the next meeting. The Mens Club asks that we provide the prizes for Bingo. Classic Cars It sounds like we will have a classic car display. Parking - Ron Kramer Ron will check with Country Club on parking. EVENTS - TIME Chairman Carl asks that you check with him first on this, then see Mari Kooi about advertising. FINANCE DIRECTOR - CAROL BUTTERFIELD Carol will be the Finance Director. Check with her if you need money for anything. i s PRIZES /DONATIONS - CON SCHMID /SUE NICCUM Con will contact Steve Frazier to see if he might also be interested in helping in this area.
