052184 PK MIN Festival of ParksCITY OF SHOREWOOD . FESTIVAL OF PARKS MONDAY, MAY 21, 1984 FESTIVAL OF PARKS MINUTES Chairman Gary Carl opened the meeting at 6:43 PM. COUNCIL CHAMBERS 5755 COUNTRY CLUB ROAD 6:30 PM Chairman Carl informed the committee that there were four different areas he wished to cover. 1. Time 2. Space 3. Equipment needed 4. People needed ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION - BOB MATTSON (474 -2338) Mr. Mattson said they have lined up a radar gun. They need canvas. Their event will take place from 12 Noon until 5:00 PM. He told Mari Kooi that he would take and distribute 250 flyers. ADVERTISING - MARI KOOI The main subject discussed was the buttons. There will be 1,000 buttons with a charge of $2.00 apiece. As many as possible will be sold. It was decided that button holders need not be present to win the "Champagne Ride For Two" but, they must be present to win all other prizes. The drawing for prizes will begin at 6 :00 PM with the drawing for the "Champagne Balloon Flight" being drawn first. The buttons and /or money are to be returned to Gary Carl no later than 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 23. HOCKEY - BOB SHAW Bob Shaw appeared at the meeting, explaining to Commission that he is coaching a girls team that is trying to raise money to go to the National. They are not part of the Athletic Association. He said that he would like to have a hockey shoot. Committee discussed the issue and decided it was acceptable if: 1. They pay a $10 fee to the City. 2. They are responsible for their own equipment and labor. 3. They display a sign informing the public that the money is being used for their team, not the Festival of Parks Bob Shaw was asked to report the wording on the sign at the June 4 Festival of Parks meeting before they have the sign made. FESTIVAL OF PARKS MONDAY, MAY 21, 1984 Page Two BESSIE BINGO Steve Frazier will talk to Bill Keeler regarding Bessie Bingo. HOT AIR BALLON RIDES - RON KRAMER The balloon rides will take place from approximately 4:00 PM until dusk. The balloon holds 4 people at a time and as it is a tethered balloon ride, it will probably take about 5 minutes per ride. The cost will be $2.00 per person, per ride. CONCESSIONS - LONNIE COUSINS Concessions will open at 11:00 AM and close approximately at 9:00 PM. A & G Sales is providing a boat canopy. Prices will be: Beer and Hot Dogs $1.00 Pop, Coffee, Candy $ .50 Brats $1.50 The beer truck will be delivered on Friday, June 22. SQUARE DANCING - CAROL BUTTERFIELD ID T(4) There will be exhibition square dancing between the hours of 5 PM and 6:30 PM. TENNIS TOURNAMENT Cancelled. MUSIC - STREET DANCING Band will be announced. Band will start at 7:30 PM. Festival Committee told Jim Heiland, and Ron Kramer that they could go up to $400 for a band. STAFFING Call Gordon Lindstrom and let him know the number of people you need to help in your event. FIRE DEPARTMENT Will be present at the Festival. POLICE DEPARTMENT Will be present at the Festival. FESTIVAL OF PARKS • MONDAY, MAY 21, 1984 Page Three CLASSIC CARS The classic car display will begin at 11:00 AM. We already have 12 entries and expect more. There will be 1 trophy.given_for. first place and another for second place, by peoples choice. It will cost $2.00 to vote unless you have a button in which event you can vote for free. The voting will be.done at the Century Club booth - voting with a name and a car number. FISHING CONTEST Mari Kooi will be talking to Greg Smith. BINGO Everything is going well. Tonka Mens Club did request at least $50 worth of change, which included $25 worth of quarters and at least 50 prizes ranging from at least $2 - $5. uTnc rAMF'c Ready to go. Hours 3:30 - 4:30 PM ; with an "open time" from 4:30 - 6 :30 PM. Cancelled. CRAFTS FAIR The crafts fair will be organized by Lucille Whistler.(474- 6116). There will be a charge of $10 per table. The hours will be from 11:00 AM until 5 or 6 PM. Anyone interested in having a table or knowing of someone that would like to display their antiques or crafts can call Lucille at the above - mentioned number. TICKETS The Committee made a decision to buy .500 tickets and to use tickets only for all events except bingo where either tickets or money will be acceptable and the crafts fair which will be cash only. The tickets and buttons will be sold in the concessions area. Buttons may. be bought for cash. It's possible that there will also be a couple of.other areas were you can buy tickets. 10K RACE • Cancelled. TRACTOR /MOWER RACE Cancelled. FESTIVAL OF PARKS • MONDAY, MAY 21, 1984 Page Four DUNK TANK The dunk tank has been ordered. The hours are from 11:00 AM until approximately 4:45 PM. Marty is still trying to negotiate with Fun Services to see if it is possible to keep it longer.. PUBLIC WORKS Lonnie Cousins of concessions asked if the City Crew would please: 1. Have the equipment out of both sides of the garage. 2. Bring the picnic tables to the parking lot. 3. Bring the satellite from Cathcart Park down. 4. Vaccuum and clean up Badger warming house. 5. Bring all the tables from -City Hall down to the warming house. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 PM.
