FESTIVAL OF PARKS MINUTES
COUNCIL CHAMBERS
5755 COUNTRY CLUB ROAD
6:30 PM
Chairman Gary Carl called the meeting to order at 6:50 PM
Present: Gary Carl Marty Jakel
Carol Butterfield Roger Stein
Gordy Lindstrom Sue Niccum
Con Schmid
Ron Kramer
Lonnie Cousins
Chairman Gary Carl began the meeting by asking how we stand financially. Staff
reported, at present, it looks as though we are $150 -$200 in the red.
He stated that he realized a lot of people put in a lot of hours and it was
appreciated.
Gary mentioned some comments he had heard concerning the Festival, such as:
-There shouldn't be a Festival.
-The Festival was too spread out - people couldn't see what was going on,
• so they didn't stop.
- Button program not good.
-Too many other Festivals, etc. planned for the same day.
He also said the two main problems appeared to be:
1. no central location
2. apathy of Shorewood residents.
Good - made a profit.
Music /Street Dance
Lost a lot of money - small crowd - everyone left after drawing - wrong type
of band? More of a rock group tosuit younger people? More variety in music?
Can you get bands to donate an hour or so? Drinking problems? Noise problems?
Tennis Tournament
Didn't happen.
• Square Dancing
Didn't happen.

Classic Cars
This was booked at the same time as their national, which created a problem.
It is suggested that a couple people could start early and take care of the
whole thing.
Horse Drawn Carriage
Good attraction - positive.
Fishing Contest
Poor response.
Adult Softball
Everyone involved had a good time.
Dunk Tank
Lost money - wouldn't have again.
Hot Air Balloon
• Good idea — Would do again, however, it was mentioned that too much dependance
was placed in this area - also, that another "main attraction" that doesn't
depend on the weather might be feasible. Suggest a contract next time.
Good attraction.
Crafts
Should have more - possibly Art Fair like Excelsior - more variety.
Face Painting
Positive - good idea.
Baseball Gun
Good
Political
Do not have again.
• Police and Fire
Good Displays - positive

Bingo
Good idea - probably would have drawn more people if it had been set up
outside - made money.
Antique Carriage
Good idea - do again.
Antique Boat
Omit - too many attractions on the lake.
Staffing
Gordon said he would not do it again, but he would suggest trying to get new
people involved.
Prizes
Well done.
Finance Committee
• A better system and having a budget set up ahead of time was suggested by Carol.
Administrative
Suggest committee to handle it next time.
Chairmanship /Organization
Well done.
Advertising
Too much for one person to do.
General Comments
-Too many meetings — caused us to lose people.
- Should stick to initial plan.
-Too few people doing too much.
-Too much rehashing of subjects.
0 -Major expenditures should be discussed with committee.
