PARK COMMISSION MEETING
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 1984

CALL TO ORDER
COUNCIL CHAMBERS

Acting Chairperson Gordon Lindstrom called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.
ROLL CALL
Present: Acting Chairperson Lindstrom, Commissioners Carl, Kooi and Jakel;
Deputy Clerk Niccum and Council Liaison Shaw
Absent: Chairman Stein, Commissioners Schmid and Butterfield (all called)
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Carl moved, Kooi seconded, to approve the minutes of Monday, October 15, 1984
as written. Motion carried unanimously.
HARDING ACRES
Mr. Bernard Harding and Mi. Dennis Danger were present to request that an
approximately 10.000 square foot lot in the northeast corner of the proposed
addition be accepted as part of the park dedication.
is Carl moved, Kooi seconded, to recomment to Council to accept cash rather than
land as the park dedication fee. Motion carried unanimously.
HOCKEY RINKS
Advertising -
Carl moved, Lindstrom seconded, to run the ads for Rink Attendants as follows:
1. Minnesota Daily twice
2. Sailor once
3. Laker (Wayzata) once
Motion carried unanimously.
Attendants - Commission decided not to lower the age below 19 years.
Schedule - 1984 -85 playing schedule not yet received.
Cathcart - Sue - check and see if it will be used by MYHA this year.
Snowblowers /Gas Cans Commission discussed possible outside storage for
gas cans and snowblowers. Sue is to check on who owns the storage shed
at Cathcart Park and how Don feels about storing gas in air conditioning
enclosure at Badger Park.
Locks on Warming House Doors — Badger and Cathcart - Commission decided to
have the locks chaged and a new door handle also at Cathcart.

MATTERS FROM THE FLOOR
Shady Hills Park
The Commission discussed what should be done with this park. Drainage,
citizen participation, terrain and several other issues were discussed.
Commissioner Carl will check with Planner Nielsen to see if it is de-
clared a "wetland ". All Commissioners are to visit the park individual-
ly before the next meeting.
Raft
Sue will contact Willie Norfleet at Tonka Bay to see how they feel about
repairing the raft.
Soccer
Acting Chairperson Lindstrom said he has talked to several people involved
with football fields and their expertise did not favor using Badger
football field to play soccer, consideringthe fact that Soccer has a long
season, and this would not give the field time to rest.
Commission requested that staff write a letter to Mr. Walter G. Roberts
of the " Tonka United Soccer Association ", inviting him to attend the
Park meeting of NOvember 19, 1984 to discuss the issue.
American Legion
Staff reported that Mr. Streeter had dropped by to see if Park Commission
• needed another playground, as they are working on their budget. Commission
requested staff to invite Mr. Streeter to the next meeting to discuss
possibilities.
Park Maps
Commission discussed having maps made of the City Parks and hanging them
in City Hall so the residents can see our Parks, and what our proposed
future plans are for them. Commissioner Carl will talk to Planner Nielsen
to see if he is interested in doing the maps.
Trivesco
The City has bought the property for the road, negotiations are still going
on concerning the park area.
Council
The Council will have one meeting in November - Monday, November 19th.
Kooi moved, Jakel seconded, to adjourn at 9:17 PM. Motion carried unanimously.
