PARK COMMISSION MEETING

CALL TO ORDER
Vice Chairman Kooi called the meeting to order.

Present: Chairman Schmid, Commissioners Lindstrom, Kooi, Jakel, Vogel and Jurgens;
and Council Liaison ;Shaw.
Absent: Commissioner Squires (called) and Sue Niccum (ill)
BADGER PARK VISIT
The Park Commission made their annual visit to Badger Park to see what repairs are
necessary and what improvements to take under consideration. Commissioners Jakel,
Jurgens, and Vogel were the Commissioners that arrived at 6:30 and visited the park,
they in turn discussed the following items with the rest of the Commission:
Volleyball area — adding a volleyball court in the area where the freeskating rink
is in the winter — the area would have to be tiled.
Football area — needs to be tiled — Commissioner Lindstrom will check with Dick
Wakefield to see what was used as fill under the park.
Signage — posting the park ordinance in all the parks.
— putting a "Badger Park" sign in the rock area where the "plow" sign is.
— hours M
Salt Pile — eliminate salt pile from present location to prevent drainage into stream.
— ask Zdrazil for suggestions.
Trees — plant more trees in park.
Tennis Court — place benches in front of court and /or picnic tables near court.
— have Sue check with Excelsior regarding their pay lighting system
on their courts.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes as written. Motion carried — 4 ayes —
1 nay (Lindstrom — denied agreeing to page 4 — warming house).
COMMISSIONER KOOI RESIGNS
• Commissioner Kooi resigned as of this meeting due to the fact that she is moving out
of the City.
Schmid moved, Lindstrom seconded, to order a plaque honoring Kooi. Motion carried
unanimously.

• NEW VICE CHAIR ELECTED — COMMISSIONER JAKEL
Lindstrom moved, Jurgens seconded, to vote by white ballot. Motion carried unanimously.
Vogel nominated Commissioner Jakel as Vice Chair, Lindstrom seconded the motion. Jakel
appointed unanimously by ballot.
CHRISTMAS LAKE ACCESS
Jurgens will be present at the next Council meeting and will reiterate the Park
Commission's recommendation for underground wiring into the island closest to the
ramp in case lighting is wanted.
PARK COMMISSION APPLICANT
Mark Laberee, 6180 Chaska Road, appeared before the Commission and presented his
resume. He expressed an interest in joining the Park Commission.
MANOR PARK WARMING HOUSE
Public Works Director Zdrazil and Commissioner Lindstrom visited a Minnetonka Park
and measured the 20' x 28' concrete block building. Zdrazil will get a price estimate.
FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
Commissioner Jurgens will contact Sue, Public Works Director Zdrazil and the Football
Association about crowning the field.
E.P.A. PERMIT FOR FREEMAN ROAD
Chairman Schmid talked to Planner Nielsen and Engineer Norton and said the blacktop
sub —base is alright for E.P.A. standards. He will ask Administrator Vogt to get
an E.P.A. permit.
SKATE BOARD RAMP
Insurance is prohibitive for a skateboard ramp, therefore it will not be built.
SILVERWOOD PARK POND DRAINAGE
Ask Sue or bon what the cost is and who pays to drain the pond.
ADJOURNMENT
Jurgens moved, Jakel seconded, to adjourn at 8:55 PM. Motion carried unanimously.
