050890 PK MIN CITY OF SHOREWOOD CITY PARKS PARK COMMISSION MEETING MANOR-CATHCART-FREEMAN TUESDAY, MAY 8, 1990 7:00 PM MINUTES The Park Commission met in Manor Park at 7:00 PM. Present were Chairman Christensen, Commissioners Lindstrom, Laberee, Andrus, Weatherly, Wilson, and Vogel; Councilman Watten; Parks Assistant Niccum; and Mr. and Mrs. Steven Dzurak Manor Park - The tennis court that was resurfaced last year is peeling off in sheets up to 18" x 18". The Commission would like to have Public Works Director Zdrazil check with the people that did the work to see if they are responsible for fixing it. *Zdrazil is aware of this and steps are being taken to remedy the problem. - The gate in the tennis court has a broken bottom hinge. Also, the Commission asked if the wire above the gate can be bent back because you scrape your back when you go through. - The Commission expressed concern over the retaining wall around the entrance to the tennis court. If a ballplayer is running for the ball, and not looking where he/she is going; that person could fall off the wall and receive serious injuries--which would result in legal action. They would like to eventually run a fence all the way from the backstop-down past the tennis court. Their concern now is for anything that would provide protection. - They asked that "weed and feed" be put on the ballfield to kill certain weeds. *This has already been done. - Play equipment area with sand around it - the concrete foundations for the play equipment are sticking up through the sand. If a child fell and hit the foundation they could be injured. They asked if the public works crew can rake the sand up over these foundations when they rake the area. - The slide in the playground area is loose at the bottom. The slide at Cathcart Park has 4 screws across the bottom. Could this please be done at Manor as well? Cathcart Park - The light on the warming house has been vandalized. - The basketball hoops are down. *These have been ordered. PARK MEETING-VISITED PARKS TUESDAY, MAY 8, 1990 Page two Cathcart Park - continued - Is the warming house scheduled to be repainted? *Yes, the paint has already been purchased. The crew is waiting for proper weather. Freeman Park - The Commission wondered who is responsible for grading and filling in the area behind the backstops, and when it will be done. *Zdrazil said Finley Brothers is supposed to do this. The City is dealing with the issue at this time. - The places that were reseeded last year are not growing. They will either need a lot more seeding, or sodding. Laberee suggested sodding the area on the west ballfield where the road was. - The areas around the infield have about 6’ - 8' between the rock of the infield and the grass of the outfield. What should be done with this? - The Commission examined the areas where the runoff from the parking lot is still washing into the infields. As the turf thickens, some of this will be prevented. *Public Works will be putting a berm across the one area that washed down into the north ballfield. Picnic Tables The Commission stopped at Badger Park to look at the picnic tables that Zdrazil purchased. All 7 Commissioners agreed on them. Zdrazil said the cost is $230 apiece. RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED, Sue Niccum Park Administrative Assistant
