052891 PK TOURS MINCITY OF SHOREWOOD PARR COMMISSION MEETING TUESDAY, MAY 28, 1991 M I N U T E S CALL TO ORDER COUNCIL CHAMBERS 5755 COUNTRY CLUB ROAD 6:00 P.M. The Park Commission met in Manor Park at 6:00 PM. They toured the Park to see what needs to be done, and came up with the following: ROLL CALL Present: Chairman Andrus, Commissioners Lindstrom, Vogel, Dzurak, and Christensen; and Park Administrative Assistant Niccum Repairs and Comments Tennis Court Although the Court was resurfaced recently, and was repaired once by the people that did the job, it is again peeling around the edges. Ask Public Works Director Zdrazil if we can still ask them to repair the current peeling problem, or if it's been too long since it was done. The inside of the court, against the retaining wall, should be cleaned out. There is a large amount of grass on the court from the crew mowing. The Park Commission would eventually like to see a tennis backboard on the north side of the court. Silver Maples - south end of tennis court - The Commission was discussing the fact that last year Mark Laberee had said these were bad trees to have that close to the tennis court because the roots come up above the ground and create problems. The Commission examined both trees and discovered that the Silver Maple farther west is doing this already, and there is a long crack in the tennis court. They ask that this tree be removed before it does more damage. They would also like to see the other Silver Maple moved back, if possible, or replaced with another tree, farther away from the court. SHOREWOOD PARK COMMISSION MEETING • TUESDAY, MAY 28, 1991 - Page two Bent pipe - south middle section of court (horizontal). Should be replaced. The Commission discussed trying to straighten it out, but feel this might cause more damage. BADGER PARK The Commission would like to get an estimate of how much it would cost to put double lights on the football field, with two poles on each end with double lights. MATTERS FROM THE FLOOR Fences on Ballfields Left Unlocked The Commission discussed the fact that several of the members of the Commission have visited Freeman Park and found the large gates either open or unlocked. They asked that the gates be locked at all times when the crew is not present and working on the field. They said they fenced • the fields in the first place to protect them and leaving them unlocked or open is an invitation to vandalism. Signs at Hiking and Biking Trail Street Crossings Niccum said she had been approached by Bill Keeler to ask the Park Commission if the crossings could be marked. Keeler said people take the trail, and if they are not very familiar with the area, and are going to a specific place, they don't know where to get off because they don't know the names of the streets they are crossing. Estimate on Relocation of Cathcart Field - Perkins The contractor that did the new Little League field for the Tonka Men's Club has offered to give the City an estimate on the relocation of the ballfield. He said if the City was figuring costs, this would give them a figure. The Commission agreed. Donation Signs Policy The Commission decided to set a policy for signs thanking the donor. The neighbors are maintaining the property as lawn, and the Commission wants to have City lines identified in some manner to prevent neighbors from thinking it's their property. Planner Nielsen recommended this some time ago. They would like to have Park Planner Koegler look at the property and make suggestions compatible with the property. They wondered if future trail signs should be put up. They would also like the lot lines identified. The Commission would also like to know what is being used to treat the pond on this property, and if it is safe.
