REVIEW AGENDA
Chair McCarty removed Item #4 from the agenda.
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Removed.
5. REVIEW ITEMS RAISED ON TOUR
Silverwood:
Discussion opened with Chamberlain presenting the proposed plan with these points being made:
Dzurak will be organizing the volunteers for the installation of the playground equipment
and McCarty added that she informed Waterford residents of the tentative date of June
11th. Hurm stated there is a list of volunteers which can be given to the foreman to
contact. Chamberlain was asked to verify the specific dates for the installation.
Zdrazil was asked to check on the cost of renting a cement mixing machine for the
insulation of playground equipment. This would eliminate the need to contract out the
work.
McCarty pointed to the trees that were planted by the Shorewood Homeowners'
Associations last Saturday, May 21st, during the Arbor Month ceremony. Chamberlain
added that the maple tree would need to be removed from it's spot due to pending
construction ill the area. Chamberlain suggested possible relocation for the tree: closer to
the parking lot, by the old entry drive, by the Covington pond, or by the clearing on the
east end of the site by Covington.
Chamberlain explained that for the sliding hill they will be creating a bowllike grade which
will help to direct the sliders to the correct place on the hill.

McCarty asked if satellites are to be provided on the park site. Benson suggested that they
possibly could be placed in or by the shelter when constructed.
Martin and other members were concerned with tile lack of grass in the playground area of
the park. Chamberlain will be checking to see if seeding is included in the contract.
Manor
The tour started in the playground area with these points being made:
The shelter needs to be painted, which brought up the question of who would be able to
do the painting. McCarty suggested asking for volunteers from the surrounding
neighborhood, notified either by sign in the park area and /or by flyers.
Benson mentioned aerating the pond to eliminate the algae, however McCarty feels that
the algae could be a possible deterrent from the pond for children.
It was the consensus of the members present that a barbecue pit should be provided in the
park. Hurm stated that there is currently money in the CIP for the picnic area which could
be used on a barbecue.
Cresent Beach:
The only item of concern was the need for the beach to be cleaned. Zdrazil stated that it is
scheduled for clean up on May 27th.
6. REVIEW 1994 PARK IMPROVEMENT PROTECTS
'Silverwood
Chamberlain stated that the construction is scheduled to begin later this week, Tree Trust
is scheduled to start the stairway on the sliding hill June 10th, and the Old Market Trail
will start in July.
Freeman:
Chamberlain mentioned that Public Works was asked to store the top soil from the trails
during the construction to later be used as backfill in the new playground area. Hurm
relayed that the President of Little League, Gary Dressel , had stated that he would contact
the Little League coaches to see if they or some of the parents would be able to help with
the installation of the playground equipment.
Wilson questioned the status on the repair of the fences on Fields 1 and 2. Hurm stated
that he spoke with Dressel earlier that day. A fence ompany could adjust the fence on Field
1 for $300.00- $400.00, the fence on Field 2 would be $522.00. This would include
sinking the pipes and cutting off the excess. it less costly option would be to add top soil.
Zdrazil will need to look at the fields to make sure that water would not be a problem.
Colopoulos added that if additio Sal soil is added it would almost be necessary to change
the grade of the entire field, overall adding soil would not be the right solution. He also
pointed out that this fall Little League will be adjusting the fences to meet regulation size,
and possibly at that time they could change the grade of the field, which could eliminate
the fence problem.

Moving of the existing warming house is necessary in order to save most of the buffer
trees. However, due to the age and condition it may not be sound and may not survive the
move.
Staff should contact Chanhassen regarding the placement of a portable structure on the
site during the skating season with the understanding that it would be replaced with a
permanent structure through the 5 year CIP.
McCarty moved, Martin seconded, to move the existing warming house if the cost is
reasonable. Motion passed unanimously.
7. SHOREWOOD PARKS FOUNDATIONS REPORT
McCarty reported that she has received some possible recommendations for the Parks
Foundation Board of Directors. She will be writing a press release to notify the residents
of Shorewood of the need for candidates to fill the Park Foundation Board of Directors.
Hurm asked that the candidates names be presented to the City Council as quickly as
possible.

McCarty and Wilson reported that the ceremony went well and that the Homeowners'
Associations were generous. Their donations were as follows: Ridge Road $150.00,

pictures for the ceremony and McCarty prepared a press release.
