060514 pktours CITY OF SHOREWOOD 5755 COUNTRY CLUB RD PARK TOUR MEETING SHOREWOOD CITY HALL THURSDAY, JUNE 5, 2014 6:30 P.M. MINUTES PARK TOUR The Commission met at Manor Park at approximately 6:30 pm for the tour of City parks. Chair Mangold, Commissioners Hartmann, Dietz and Sawtell were present. 1. MANOR PARK Discussion included the following:  Picnic canopy appropriate size for Badger Park  Gutters need to be installed on shelter building  Separate rock from rubber mat and blow out leaves from playground equipment  Trim large old willow, remove “widow makers”  Consider drain tile for low area between willow and play equipment area  Trim grass edges on volleyball court  Repaint tennis backboard and replace white stripe  Add loop trail to CIP, consider a mowed path for now  Look at play equipment in Thorpe Park (Deephaven) for more challenging equipment  Drag ball field infield, weed control  Stakes near parking lot – new tree locations?  Replace park rules signs 2. SKATE PARK  Replace panels as needed on ramps and two of them need to be replaced now  Weeds in pavement cracks  Consider certifying someone from Public Works for weed spraying  Remove “volunteers” from in and around spruce trees  Remove dead heads and widow makers from trees in all parks  Video surveillance sign – real? If not, liability?  Consider an informal website/newsletter survey regarding use/value of skate park. Options – dog park, expanded community gardens  Revisit the concept of a dog park 3. SILVERWOOD PARK  Date picnic shelter was built?  Remove large ash tree east of shelter  New bench – install north of swing set, east of ash  Repair, straighten retaining wall west of asphalt court area  Lock message boards (all parks), add more city info, rules 4.
