SHORE WOOD PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING

The meeting of the Shorewood Planning Commission was dalled
to order by Chairman Dick Bartholow at 7:20 p.m. Present
were RoiDert Siegler, Dr. Leavenworth, George DuToit, Don
Erickson, Grace Madsen, and chairman, Dick Bartholow. The
meeting was beld at Minnewashta Elementary School.

The meeting opened with a brief resume, by Mayor McDougall,
of the organization of the village and the areas of
responsibility of each council member. He alBo mentioned
the problems facing our villagenow9.nd in the future. The
Mayor asked the new members of the commission to familiarize
themselves with Subdivision Ordinance No. 30 as amended by
Ordinance No. 49.
Roger Hennessey appeared before the commission to ask about
a commercial zoning for a triangle of land located between
County Road 19 and the railroad track just outside the
Excelsior village limits. A part of this parcel of land is
presently zoned commercial. Considerable discussion followed.
Bob Siegler made a motion that the Planning Commission con-
sider for commercial zoning Subdivision 135, lots 297, 305,
304, 288, and 290, but excluding 294. This motion was second-
ed by George DuToit, and carried. The Chairman asked the
members of the commission to look at the property in question,
and said. the matter would come before the commission again
when pertinent information and data have been collected.

Dr. Leavenworth made the motion for adjournment and it was
seconded by Bob Siegler. 'I'he Chairman closed the meeting.

SHOREWOOD PUNNING COMIIzUeSION MEETING
The meeting of the Shorewood Planning Commission was called
to order by Chairman Dick Bartholow at 7:30 p.m. Present
were Jack Cooper, George DuToit, Don Erickson, Grace Madsen,
and Robert Siegler. The meeting was held at Minnewashta
Elementary School.
Ivtr. Harold Farnes, representing Mr. Rey Boneau, appeared
before the Planning Commission. He presented a proposal to
subdivide the Boneau property on ChristmaS Lake into three
lots of 100,000 sq. ft., 62,000 sq. ft., and 78,000 sq. ft.
respectively. A question arose as to the conformity of the
roadway with ordinance requirements - possible conflict with
Ordinance II 11, Section 4. ChHirman Dick Bartholow and Mr.
Farnes will co nsul t with the villa.ge attorney, Frank Kelly,
regarding this matter.
John Neve(;j.ux, Walt Roberts, Cliff Anderson and Don streeter
showed the Planning Commission preliminary sketches Hnd plans
for a Knights of Columbus club house. The Knights of Columbus
would like to build this on Lots # 20, 21, 22, 23, and part
of 24 located in Manitou Glen off Glen Road. (N 1/2 Section
33 T. 117, R. 23) This property is presently zoned residential
.::l.nd the K. C. 's are requesting H Special Use permit. The
Commie.sion decided that a public hearing '-vould be advisable,
and if there are no objections raised that it would then seem
feasible for the Knights of Columbus to pursue this farther.
The Secretary was instructed to ask the village clerk to
place a notice of public hearing in the Minnetonka Herald.
The hearing to be before the Village Council on March 13, 1967.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

Shorewood J?lanning Commission Meeting:
The meeting of the Shorewood J?lanning Commission was called
to crder by Cha.irman, Dick Bartholow, at 7; 30 p. m. at the
Minnewashta School. Present were Jack Oooper, George DuTolt,
Don Erickson, Grace Ma.dsen, Bob Siegler, Jac.k Stansbury and
the Chairman.
The first business to come before the commission wa.s the
Rey Boneau subdivision on Christma~ Lake. Mr. BonetiiU a.nd
his attorney, Harold Farnes, appeared befo.:re t-he commission
and explained what bad been done to come closer to complying
with the village ordinance requirements for a road.
Granted to village: 1. Perpetual utility easement
2. Storm sewer ea.sement
3. 33 feet of property for road
4. Cross-easements on the three pieces
making up the roadway.
With these stipulations the Village Council had given approval.
George DuToi t moved that the .Plannlng Oommission give its
e aapproval in formal form. This motion was seconded by Jack Cooper,
,., and all voted aye.
Next Mr. and Mrs. William Gilster of 3913-W. 48tb Street, Mpls.,
Minnesota, appeared before the Planning Commission. ~rrs. Gilster
would like to teacb art in a residence they have purchased at
400 Grant Lorenz Road. This would not be their perma.nent
residence. The Cha.irman outlined the limitations and privileges
of a Special Use Permit. He made clear that the following must
be complied with: 1. No employees
2. No signs
3. :Ample off-street pa.rking
4. Permit is limited to person who received it.
A pug11c beating before the village council was scheduled for
April 10, 1967. Bob Siegler made a motion that the Planning
Oommission recommend Villa.ge Oouncil a.pprova.l of the Gileter's
request for a Special Use Permit as a.. Home Occupation. George
DuTolt seconded the motion9nd it carried.
The meeting was then adjourned.

Present were Don Erickson, Dr. Lea.venworth,
and Grace Madsen.
Manson Caverly appeared before the Planning Commission
to request a special use permit. He has purchased
the Minoetonka Nursery and Fruit Package Company whlch
is located on what was formerly the Allenore Nursery
on Mill Street, and wishes to conduct a Nursery Business
and assemble fruit boxes. ]Jfr. Ca.verly stated that
there would be few trucks coming end going, and that
he would have no employees.
The ch!:ilrman questioned Mr. Caverly about possible
expanslon of the enterprlse, and Mr. Caverly stated
that he has no plans for this at the present tlme.
Don Erickson questioned him about the storage of the
materials which he would be using, and was assured
thnt there would not be any large amount on the
premises; and what there was would be neatly piled
and covered. Dr. Leavenworth questioned Mr. Caverly
on the tools required, noise element, and how long
he has owned the proper~y.
Mr. Bartholow then expla.l ned to Mr. Caverly that the
Village of Shorewood is opposed to llspot zoningtl,
and that the Special Use Permit is the sol~tion for
these enterprises that fall into the Home Activlty
category. Mr. Caverly was then excused and told that
he would be told the Plannlng Commisslons decision
within 24 hours.
After further discussion among Commission members,
Dr. Leavenworth moved that the Planning Commlssion
recommeml to the Council approval of a Special Use
Permit subject to strict adherence to the ordlnances.
The motion was seconded by Bob Siegler. Before the
vote was taken Bob Siegler commented that the members
of the commission feel thst Mr. Caverly's activity
fits ordinance requirements. The vote was four voting
affirmatively and one abstention.
Don Erickson suggested that perhaps it would be a.
good idea to notify the closest neighbors ln ea.ch
lnstance of a public hearing for a Speclal Use Permit.

Dick Leavenworth made a motion to adjourn and this
was seconded oy Grace Madsen. Allin favor and the
meeting was adjourned.

a Special Use Permit for a double bungalow to be built on a site

ment on land fronting on Division Street, partly in Excelsiorpnd
partly in Shorew..d. As the Shorewood portion is now zoned

Kahler Property
Mr. Phillip Perkins and Mrs. Kahler appeared to. inquire about
Village and Highway Department plans that might affeot Kahler
property at the southwest corner of Highwa.y 7 Hnd Christmans
_A Lake Road, described as Lot 145. Tbey were informed of present

street lighting in Shorewood was discussed. It was moved by
DuToit, seconded by Cooper, and unanimoully carried:
MOTION: The Commission reoommend to the Council that a street
light be installed at the north end of Woodend Road, Minnetonka
Manor, as recommended by our Shorewood Police.
