Truth -In- Taxation Meeting
The Shorewood City Council will hold a Truth -In-
Taxation public hearing on Monday, December
5, at 7 pm, at Shorewood City Hall, 5755 Country
Club Road. Staff will present information regarding
the budget, property tax levy, and the property tax
impact on a variety of property types and values.
Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting
county
and to comment on the proposed budget and tax
levy. The proposed 2012 budget is available for
inspection at City Hall during normal business
hours, or on our web site, www. ci. shore wood.

Finance Director Bruce DeJong at 952.960.7903.
momesteaa changes
Talking the property tax system is never
easy or straightforward. Amendments to the
homestead credit were made by the Legislature
and Governor at the end of the last session that
makes some dramatic changes to the tax bill. The
2011 omnibus tax act established a new property
tax program called the homestead market value
exclusion and repealed the existing market value
homestead credit (MVHC).
The state was supposed to pay the cities,
counties, and schools for the tax relief provided
by the homestead credit. Because of the state's
financial problems, those payments have been
reduced or eliminated. The new Homestead
Market Value Exclusion provides a reduction in the
taxable value to all homesteads under $413,800.
Celebrating Winter
he Arctic Fever committee has been working
all year to make Arctic Fever 2012 a great
event for residents and friends of the South Lake
Minnetonka area.
The AF Committee invites residents to bring
family and friends to celebrate the fun a Minnesota
winter brings. It is easy to spend the winter months
inside warm homes, forgetting the great things
only winter offers! Aschedule and coloring contest
sheet for kids ages 11 and under can be found in
this edition of the Shore Report.
New this year is Arctic Winterwear Contest
and Exhibition. Talented residents who knit, sew,
crochet, weave, or make winterwear with other
forms of fiber art are invited to make mittens,
Through this new exclusion, the cost of providing
relief to lower value homeowners is now borne by
all the other property in the taxing district.
Most property owners will notice a tax increase
due to this change. Truth -in- taxation notices
recently sent to qualifying homeowners reflect
the value of your property after the Market Value
Exclusion is applied. This will be a decrease
from the 2011 taxable value that was sent out this
spring.
For more information on the change, visit the
city web site for a link to a Minnesota Public Radio
explanation of the change or contact Finance
Director Bruce DeJong at bdejong@ ci. shore wood.
