Volunteer for Park or Planning Commission
Interested in the Shorewood Park or Planning
Commission but worried about the time com-
mitment? Generally there is only one meeting per
month. Most other work is done on your own time
from home, and consists of reviewing information
provided by city staff. The time commitment for
the Planning commission is greater than that of
the Park Commission because of the number of
projects. If you have other questions or concerns,
please contact the city, and consider serving on
one of the commissions. These advisory groups
make a big difference in making Shorewood a
great place to live and play!

Do you Scoop the Poop?
It might notseem like a stormwater
problem, but animal waste is
one of the many seemingly small
sources of pollution that can
add up to big problems for water
quality, and even human health.
Animal waste contains two main
types of pollutants that harm local
waters: nutrients and pathogens.
When this waste ends up in water
bodies, it decomposes, releasing
nutrients that cause excessive
growth of algae and weeds. This
makes the water murky, green,
and smelly. The pathogens,
disease causing bacteria
and viruses, can also make
local waters unswimmable
and unfishable, and have
caused severe illness in
humans.
Animal waste doesn't
simply decompose on land.
The easiest way to avoid
these problems is to clean
up after your pet each and
every time, and dispose of the
waste properly in a bag in the
trash. If you are in a park, make
sure you tie the bag shut before
