06 June Shore ReportElection 2020 Elections may look different due to the COVID -19 pandemic his year's primary election on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, and the general election on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, are fast approaching. County and city elections departments encourage voters to vote early by mail. Apply for a ballot at any time of the year at mnvotes.org. If you decide to vote by mail, please read the instructions carefully and complete all forms that are required to ensure your ballot will be counted. Acommon mistake is not having your vote properly witnessed. You need a witness to sign your ballot envelope at the time you seal your completed ballot. The witness can be either a Minnesota registered voter or a notary and they must sign the signature envelope and list their address. Show your witness your ID and have them mark which ID option is used on the signature envelope. When completed, mail the ballots and forms back and make sure it is received before Election Day. If you are not registered to vote, you will receive a registration application with your materials. 2020 Dates Primary General Election Election Ballots sent Friday, Friday, starting June 26 September 18 Apply for Friday, Friday, absentee July 10 October 2 before Deadline for Election Day, Election Day, ballot to be Tuesday, Tuesday, received August 11 November 3 Precinct 1 polling location change Precinct 1 (Enchanted, Shady and Spray islands) polling location has been changed to the Shorewood Community & Event Center, 5735 Country Club Road. Due to the COVID -19 pandemic, the previous polling location has become unavailable. All voters in Precinct 1 will be notified of this change in polling location pursuant to MN State Statute §20413.16, Subd.1 a. Annual drinking water report The Consumer Confidence Report, better known as the drinking water report, is published each year by the city. The current report covers testing that took place on the city water system in 2019. Find the Shorewood city report online at www. ci. shorewood. mn. us /water_report. The information provided in the water report is for residents connected to city water. Residents with More Election 2020 on page 2 wells are encouraged to have their water tested by a licensed facility. More information on well water testing is available on the city web site. If you have any questions regarding the information found in the water report, please contact the city at 952.960.7900. Utility rate increase delayed A utility rate increase planned for June is tApostponed until later in the year. The number of residents financially impacted by the virus and Minnesota State of Emergency declaration prompted the delay. The proposed increases for city water, storm water management and sanitary sewer are on the city website under Services >Utilities. Notice for the rate increase will be under the government/public notices tab on the city's website. Watch for updates in future newsletters and on the city website. June 2020 www.ci.shorewood.mn.us 0 Recycling Weeks fl June 2020 All recycling must be curbside no later than 7 a.m. on recycling day. Mainland residents recycle June 10 and 24; Island residents recycle June 11 and 25. _ Report misses before noon the next day: 952.960.7900 r Tip of the month: containers should be empty of any liquids or food. Do not recycle masks, gloves and other PPE is important, but there is also an issue of safety for recycling personnel when these items are put in the wrong container. Make sure friends and family using protective items know that these cannot be recycled, and help us educate the community. Masks, gloves, goggles and other personal protective equipment should not be placed in recycling containers at home or in parks. These items should be bagged and placed in your trash. Keeping our recycling free of materials that cannot be recycled Watering restrictions in effect hrough September 30, residents on municipal water cannot use sprinklers or sprinkling systems between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. This restriction does not affect hand watering or water toys. See the city website under Rebates for WaterSense products Purchasing a new toilet for your home or business? Have a sprinkler system? Rebate dollars in the form of utility rebates are available to Shorewood property owners, commercial and residential, for WaterSense toilets, sprinkler heads and sprinkler system controllers. These devices must be WaterSense labeled. Get complete information and a link to WaterSense qualified items on the city website under Elections 2020 Environment> Water efficiency rebates. If you do not have internet access, contact the city at 952.960.7900 for information and a rebate form. Commercial property owners should contact the city, 952.960.7900, for details. Residential owners can call the city, or go online for rebate amounts. Funding for the grant is provided by City of Shorewood, AIIIIN — Environment >Yard and tree care for complete information. Although owners with private wells are exempt, the city recommends only watering outside of these hours for most efficient watering and for water conservation. N 0 \S EPA City offices on the ballot and how to run for office his year's general election will include one (1) mayor and two (2) city council seats for Shorewood. Candidate filing for these seats begins July 28, 2020, through 5 p.m. on August 11, 2020 (Primary Election Day). It is very likely that petitions in lieu of filing fees will be accepted in electronic signature format. In addition, the process of filing may be altered to align with COVID -19 pandemic guidelines as well. Candidate filing packets will be available in July. Purchase yours by calling the center at 952.474.7635 to arrange pick -up. metrodiningclub.com Disease tree program continues For the second year, Shorewood residents that have concerns with oak, ash or elm trees on their property are able to have an arborist from Davey Tree Service evaluate the tree at no charge. In an effort to keep diseased trees out of the Shorewood urban forest, the free evaluation services on the three trees that are of major concern will be offered through the summer months. To make an appointment for tree evaluation, please call city hall at 952.960.7900. Only appointments made through the city will be covered by this 4oAa program. Evaluation of other tree types will not be covered in this free service.
